  1. You put into words what I find so interesting about this score! I think this statement has applied, in some degree, to every score he’s done since TFA, but DD especially feels divorced from Williams the populist. Like we’ve stripped his style down to its barest essentials, and this is the pure music he wants to write.
  2. 0:43-1:22 of “home” kicks ass. One of the moments I’m most excited to see what it accompanies in the film.
  3. I feel this is a score to listen to with full focus in a quiet setting. If you’re multitasking, the whole score could slip by you, but there’s a lot going on, just at a low volume and appreciate the many quiet details. Something like Lincoln or The BFG. Which is fine with me, I love those scores
  4. I think JW is closer in age to Aragorn than Gandalf 💁‍♀️
  5. I think “celestial” is the real highlight. If you are expecting something big and romantic like ET, it probably won’t land, but what a gorgeous piece of music. Had a nice happy tear in my eye at the celeste statement of whichever theme that is at the end of the track :’)
  6. The first half of “reprise” goes hard as FUCK. Love it as a capper to this highly restrained album
  7. I think so. Every review I’ve read, which is not a huge sampling, has mentioned it. Some positive and some negative on the film, but all positive on the score.
  8. Edited- Disregard lol
  9. Dawg I have a film degree. It’s not worth the paper it’s printed on except in this one instance 😂
  10. “Old school 90’s Sci-Fi thriller” ”contemporary score” How do you think that works
  11. That’s because it already has its own thread
  12. The term criticism can be used neutrally, and that is how I used it. Think criticism in the academic sense.
  13. I’ve decided I’m not going to spend my time whinging about unreleased music or the length of the album or repeated tracks because the very existence of this score was extremely improbable to begin with. We didn’t deserve anything Williams has done in the last two decades. Every second of new music is a gift, and that is how I am going to treat it.
  14. I don’t really find all the comparisons of the piece resembling this or that based on a few notes to be very valuable criticism, except to point out that it has completely different emotional content than all those works - I think that is Williams’ brilliance. A couple notes shared with Cinque’s theme, yet this is filled with its own noble, religious awe, which I wouldn’t say Cinque’s theme does. Williams is able to use similar building blocks to create something entirely different.
  15. In my wildest dreams I did not imagine he would conduct this too. Incredible. This man is my hero.
