John Crichton 4 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Back by popular demand! Tweaked by popular demand! Titles also considered: Tournament II: Return of the Killer Tournament (a little Blackadder reference for you there). As I explained earlier, I was sympathetic to those that commented that the last tournament produced the same old results. So, after floating a few different options, this seemed to be the most popular one. The tournament structure will remain the same: the top 12 will move on to the final bracket, the top 4 get a first round bye, etc.Once again, I'd like everyone to nominate 10 themes, in no particular order. No rankings please. However this time, all themes from all the following scores are not eligible:All Star WarsAll Indiana JonesAll Harry PotterAll Jurassic ParkETSuperman- The Movie (Superman IV themes ARE eligible)Any votes for any theme from any of these scores will not be counted. All others are eligible. Popular scores like AI, Hook, Jaws, and Schindler's List remain eligible because they were not represented in the last bracket.Right now I'll set the nominations deadline for Monday, February 2. The fact that's the day I get back from vacation is pure coincidence. Really.

Koray Savas 2,259 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Fine, if you want some Jazzy Johnny, get anything he's done from the 60's. Or anything on which he is credited as Johnny.

Nick Parker 3,049 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Ah, free-form Jazz. "Banning Back Home" does not fit that category, but it could still be considered "Jazzy".

John Crichton 4 Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Well, there's definately a pattern emerging at the top of the standings (including, in my mind, a major surprise). And there's also a 10 way tie for 12th.

Koray Savas 2,259 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 So, Mr. President has the VP counting the ballots for him.

Datameister 2,561 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Me too, Jason. If only I had more money and hard drive space...
Jay 45,197 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 The people in this thread who just said "Prologue" from Hook.... did you really mean the Prologue Theme and not The Flying Theme?See this post and this post.
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Thanks for the links, Jason. I got the album last week, so that is a big help.
John Crichton 4 Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 So, Mr. President has the VP counting the ballots for him. No, Ray's just keeping an eye on his favorite. I prefer not to release any results or tallies until the end, so as to not bias any future ballots. Other than vague hints like my last one, of course. In addition to Jason's Hook question, I'm also investigating the possibilty of combining votes for the Orca theme and the Shark Cage Fugue, I always thought it was the same thing.Just a reminder, we're voting for themes here, not cues. If you give me a cue that's not a specific theme's title (ie a concert piece), I need to know what theme you're referring to.
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I'm also investigating the possibilty of combining votes for the Orca theme and the Shark Cage Fugue, I always thought it was the same thing. But they are not the same thing, so you will not consider it. "Shark Cage Fugue" is not a theme in and of itself. It just so happens to contain that one theme. The "Orca Theme" can be heard at the end of that Track. To summarize, you leave your dirty hands off my precious "Orca Theme".
John Crichton 4 Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Ummm...if I do combine them that's more votes for the Orca theme.
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Well, I suppose those themes could be considered one and the same....
indy4 160 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 So, Mr. President has the VP counting the ballots for him. It ain't over 'til your VP counts the votes.
Ollie 1,364 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 In addition to Jason's Hook question, I'm also investigating the possibilty of combining votes for the Orca theme and the Shark Cage Fugue, I always thought it was the same thing.I thought you and I had already cleared up this issue?
Red 75 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 ... I really need to branch out and listen to more of JW's scores outside of the "big ones"My problem is being able to include themes from a variety of scores that I like. I mean in doing one of these lists I could just name ten themes from Hook and be totally satisfied, but I don't want to do that because it shuts out all of the other scores and themes that I'm a fan of.
John Crichton 4 Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 In addition to Jason's Hook question, I'm also investigating the possibilty of combining votes for the Orca theme and the Shark Cage Fugue, I always thought it was the same thing.I thought you and I had already cleared up this issue?I think we came to a definitive maybe. I'm leaning towards combining them, I just wanted a little more opinion on it.John- trying to squeeze in a few posts from work 'cause his internet at home was down all morning
indy4 160 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 ... I really need to branch out and listen to more of JW's scores outside of the "big ones"My problem is being able to include themes from a variety of scores that I like. I mean in doing one of these lists I could just name ten themes from Hook and be totally satisfied, but I don't want to do that because it shuts out all of the other scores and themes that I'm a fan of.Why? If there are ten themes from Hook that are better than any others that are eligible for this bracket, then you should list them.
Red 75 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 But that would mean leaving off many great themes from other scores. So I guess I wouldn't be satisfied if I just did that, but I would still be naming themes that I love.
indy4 160 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Still, the tournament is supposed to determine JWFans' favorite JW theme(s). And the results are sorta skewed if you vote for something that isn't your favorite theme.
