The Chronological Film Score Thread

I know, I know. I'm a huge believer in people getting to have their own personal tastes in music, art, etc. without being chewed out as being incorrect or stupid or whatever. My opinion just happens to contrast strongly with yours. ;)

Anybody figured out Fantastic Mr Fox (the OST and the 'abbey roads additional music' release), perhaps?

Sure the album is quite chronological as it is and the "additional music" is a total rip-off, containing almost no new music.

Does anyone know the correct chronological order for THE WOLFMAN, including both Danny Elfman's OST and Conrad Pope's additional music combined?

Thanks - but you wouldn't be up to a detailed breakdown, would you? Perhaps over at your excellent blog? :P

Well, I DO have a more detailed rant on the subject:

http://blofeldscat.livejournal.com/160757.html

But let me emphasize, there's no new music of much worth on the CD. What can be added is mentioned there.

Thanks. Taking into account all your comments though, apparently the album would benefit even more now from a resequencing. If you ever have some time, please do a detailed breakdown of every cue (including what cues are alternate takes etc.)!

Robin Hood - Marc Streitenfeld

Need a little help for that one. Here is the chronological order based on what I recall from the film and the track titles :

01. Creatures - The boys from the woods stealing grain/food/whathever-you-want from Locksley's food store.

02. Destiny - Robin Hood title screen + text explaining the backstory (that's for the first part (0'00 - 1'50). Don't recall the second part (1'50 - 3'37) being used in the film. If so, maybe for the first siege sequence)

03. Siege - The siege of I-don't-recall-what-the-name-is castle.

04. Godfrey - Godfrey first apparition in the film.

05. Ambush - Godfrey's men ambush Sir Robert Loxley.

06. Pact Sworn In Blood - Robin makes a promise to Loxley to return the crown to England.

07. Returning the Crown - Robin's arrival to London.

08. John is King - Pretty self-explanatory

09. Planting the Fields - Pretty self-explanatory. Could be after Sherwood Forest.

10. Sherwood Forest - Robin's ride with Marian in Sherwood Forest. Could be before Planting the Fields.

11. Robin Speaks - Robin's speech with the barons.

12. Killing Walter - Pretty self-explanatory

13. Nottingham Burns - Don't recall hearing it in the film, but that's the most obvious spot if it's in the film.

14. Walter's Burial - Pretty self-explanatory

15. Preparing for Battle - Pre-Dover beach battle sequence. Could be after Landing Of The French.

16. Landing Of The French - Pretty self-explanatory. Could be before Preparing for Battle.

17. Charge - Robin and the barons charge the french army.

18. Clash - The whole battle sequence.

19. The Last Arrow - Robin thinks Marian is dead. Robin kills Godfrey. Everyone is happy (except Godfrey. And Prince John).

20. The Legend Begins - Yeah, I know : the legend begins... at the end.

21. Merry Men - End Credits music.

22. Fate Has Smile Upon Us - I don't recall hearing it in the film.

"Fate Has Smiled Upon Us" comes between "Pact Sworn in Blood" and "Returning the Crown." It's the part where Robin and co. discuss plans to 'return to England rich men.' It's dialed down quite a bit in the film.

As far as I know, these are the only tracks from the More Music From album with new score/source music:

01. Prologue (first 44 seconds can be seamlessly cross-faded into Main Title)

02. Outlawed Tunes on Outlawed Pipes

03. The Royal Wedding (first 32 seconds of narration can be cleanly removed)

05. Scottish Wedding Music

06. Prima Noctes

13. Vision of Murron

(Vision of Murron is the best of the bunch, in my opinion.)

It's been a while since I put it together, but I believe this is the order to chronologically combine it with the OST (new music in bold):

(Based on Chris Chrusher's complete edit, minus DVD rips. Search his post for Braveheart.)

01. Prologue / Main Title (3:32)

02. A Gift of a Thistle (1:37)

03. Outlawed Tunes on Outlawed Pipes (2:03)

04. The Royal Wedding (1:38)

05. Scottish Wedding Music (1:14)

06. Prima Noctes (1:46)

07. Wallace Courts Murron (4:25)

08. The Secret Wedding (6:32)

09. Attack on Murron (2:59)

10. Revenge (6:24)

11. Murron's Burial (2:12)

12. Making Plans / Gathering the Clans (1:53)

13. "Sons of Scotland" (6:18)

14. The Battle of Stirling (5:57)

15. Vision of Murron (1:45)

16. Falkirk (4:04)

17. Betrayal & Desolation (7:47)

18. Mornay's Dream (1:16)

19. The Legend Spreads (1:08)

20. For the Love of a Princess (4:04)

21. The Princess Pleads for Wallace's Life (3:36)

22. "Freedom" / The Execution / Bannockburn (7:21)

23. End Credits (7:15)

Not of the top of my head, but the liner notes by Matessino tell you if you own the actual CD

It says that "Please Come Home for Christmas" was used in the film, but doesn't specify where. "White Christmas" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" aren't mentioned, although I know "Have Yourself" goes after "Marley to the Rescue." In any case... it's cool. Only that last one is a particularly important piece of source music in the structure of the score.

Woops, my apologies, I thought it mentioned all the songs. I found this that might help though:

Ah, yes. Thanks!

I've edited the alternate "Finale" into the "Next Morning / Mom Returns" track. Beautiful, much more reflective, recalls the earlier church scene and it breaks up the monotony of the constant "Somewhere in my Memory" theme. I also edited the film version insert of "Clothesline Trapeze" into the main track, but that's going to be left aside as an alternate curiosity only.

I did the same thing. I like hearing the film version insert for "Clothesline Trapeze" more.

I can tell you where all the songs go when I get home. I know this movie better than almost any other except maybe Superman. Haha. When I was a kid, I watched my favorites non-stop.

Anyways, I made a chronological playlist including the songs plus the two that weren't in the OST (Run Rudolph Run and Rockin Around the Christmas Tree) I will post it when I get home later.

Nevermind. Just saw the link to GoodMusician's breakdown. Sure beats what I would have posted! :)

Wow, people editing out the finale of Home Alone? Dissing the snow battle from Empire in another thread. What's next? Deleting the Star Wars Main Title and the ending of E.T.?

Chronological order for Family Plot:

Delete Family Plot Theme and The Stonecutter.

Trust me. I'm not editing a thing out of Home Alone. Literally a Top 5 score for me. The first "non action" (ie, Star Wars/Raiders/Superman) that I fell in love with...well, this and "The Boy Who Could Fly" - I loved that one too.

I could listen to it almost anytime, but I try to constrain myself to Christmas because the film was such a staple when I was a kid. So many memories and all that. :)

Have you heard the alternate Finale? It's just reinserting Williams' apparently original version of the piece into the body of the score. I like the film version very much too, but this is something different.

Anyone know the order for TRON: LEGACY with the bonus tracks?

Not sure how right this is as I'd need to see the film again, but:

1. Overture (not used in film)

2. The Grid (main title)

3. The Son of Flynn

4. Encom Part I

5. Encom Part II

6. Recognizer

7. Armory

8. Arena

9. Round One

10. Rinzler

11. The Game Has Changed

12. Outlands

13. Father and Son

14. Adagio For TRON

15. Nocturne

16. Outlands Part II

17. Reflections

18. End of Line

19. Castor

20. Derezzed

21. Fall

22. Solar Sailer

23. Sea of Simulation

24. Sunrise Prelude

25. Rectifier

26. Disc Wars

27. C.L.U.

28. Arrival

29. Flynn Lives

30. Finale

31. TRON Legacy (End Titles)

Thanks. I've put the song at number two, No Good about Goodbye. With the Bond theme from the credits and the Crawl, End Crawl as closing tracks, it makes for a better listening experience for sure. No need to jump up and stop the CD player before the last track on the CD kicks in anymore!

Also wanted to add that there's no way to get the complete Bond theme in the credits without the gun sound effect - there's also some rumble following that from the 'Quantum of Solace' title appearing on screen. I messed around with the rear channels and two left and right front channels for this, but ended up as the best solution just using all the channels: leaving out a few measures after the opening, before the gun shot as well as the first guitar statement following it, but looping the second statement which then comes right after the opening. It works best like this, there's no sudden change in dynamics, or even recording (I've heard some edits that insert stuff from Casino Royale).

Oh man - you're a bit behind. The extra tracks on the official deluxe edition were just synth demos. The full recording sessions leaked and we have a thread dedicated to organizing all that here: http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18651

Not sure how right this is as I'd need to see the film again, but....

Thanks for the Tron list, but here's a couple notes/questions:

1) For complete-ists - you can add Journey's Separate Ways and Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams between tracks 5 & 6.

2) Songs 30 and 31 should be switched - Tron Legacy comes first, followed by Finale.

3) Finally, I'm not sure where "Sunrise Prelude" fits? Was it when Sam was describing the sunrise, or was it at the end when there was an actual sunrise? If it's the actual Sunrise, then it should come after "Flynn Lives".

From my recollection of the film, 'Finale' was the final moments of the film, although I'd have to see the film again. But that's why I have Tron Legacy after it.
