In a shocking surprise that has the so called experts scratching their heads, the new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull finished as disappointed third this weekend at the boxoffice behind #1 Iron Man, and #2 Prince Caspian.

Indiana Jones was figured to end this holiday weekend as the top draw but fans have not shown the interest that was expected. Paramount executives are pondering what went wrong. One was quoted..."The reviews are strong, and we thought interest was there but apparently there is an age gap, fans just don't want to see an adventure film about an old man." Another was quoted as saying..."I think that Shia may be part of the problem, or it simply past Indy's time. Or it could be that the viewing public are tired of Spielberg and Lucas."

On pure numbers it looks even worse for Indy

Note these are Thursday to Monday totals

1. Iron Man, 106.8 Million, $27000.00 per screen

2. Prince Caspian, 97.2 Million, $18634.00 per screen

3. Indiana Jones, 88.35 Million, $6450.00 per screen

Indiana Jones open wide, and while the $88 Million total is very good, it was expected to rival last years Spiderman III numbers. This leaves the door open for The Dark Night(Batman2) to dominate the summer boxoffice.

When asked about underperforming Lucas mentioned that the critics hated the film before they ever saw it and that kind of built in bias undermined the faith of the public in the project. In a surprise, a little infighting within the production, Lucas further stated that if there is an Indiana Jones 5, he will likely direct it, and this time he will use all the digital and computerised technology at his disposal. "Steven didn't respect my wishes and shot the movie on film and he edited in a way I asked him not to. As a director I will do as my producer asks."

Film experts were shocked at this new rift between longtime pals Lucas and Spielberg but notes, both are in a decline, Spielberg hasn't had a true blockbuster since 93, and Lucas hasn't had an artistic success since the original Star Wars.

In further developments Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston.......

You know, you could make a career writing fiction. Stephen King comes to mind . . . or Dave Barry.

The movie opened May 22 in the US (and most of the world). The weekend still lies ahead!

when fan fiction starts to sell I'll think about it, until then I'll keep my day job, and night one too.

I'm 99,99% certain that this movie will top the box office this weekend. Wanna bet?

why,

I'm 100% certain it will be the #1 movie at the boxoffice this weekend, and by Tuesday morning will have already passed the 100 million dollar mark, perhaps by a significant amount.

There are people I know who don't go to movies wanted to see this.

I have to say there was a decent size crowd for a mid afternoon schoolday showing when I went. I can't imagine how crazy it'll be tonight.

Is this just per screen, because they had Indy going on 3 times as many screens at my theatre than Iron Man.
