hehe, you said "dookie"

Well, ironically enough in time for the current discussion on this thread,

here is a demo of 3M2A - THE CHILD RETURNS (Alternate Beginning).

Nothing really earth-shattering here...audio quality is only 128kbps to make it small enough for an attachment.

Thanks for posting that...but what we really need is the original beginning! =D (Which I'll probably do eventually if no one else does.) EDIT: And FYI, I've finished 11 out of 30 bars of the dance orchestra cue.

Well heck...I've gone and done the wrong one!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Guess my only excuse for that one is doing it at work and not having the bootleg recordings on my computer there...I even THOUGHT it sounded like something we already had! Oh well, it took me all of about 20 minutes to do that, so I'll just do up the original intro first thing in the morning.

OH, also Datameister, for those "contemporary" sections in the "Willy in the Fryer" cue, I've found sometimes it's easier to play those into Finale as a hyperscribe...you may already be doing that, just wanted to offer that up as a suggestion. :P

That's a great suggestion - I hadn't thought of that. Unfortunately, though, my current setup doesn't allow room for my keyboard to be plugged into my computer. =(

Whoa - airmanjerm - that sounds awesome! Even if we already have a somewhat clean rip - it still sounds great. I'd love to hear other cues (even previously released ones) like that!

GREAT WORK! Please keep it up!

Thanks Valentinice...sometimes these things come out better than others...brass samples typically aren't capable of producing the overtones of a live instrument (except for the really high-end/expensive ones), so simulations/demos of things which are brass-heavy sometimes aren't quite as "realistic." For my purposes though, these sounds are "fine."

Anyway, here is the ORIGINAL intro to "The Child Returns."

I think the alternate makes more sense, as it incorporates the Slave Children's theme. (I think it's also the first time we hear it in the film). This one would have been OK, but I'm pretty sure it was changed in order to add in the theme...just my opinion.

I figured that the opening to "The Child Returns" had to be re-written once "The Old Priest's Tale" was replaced by "The Old Priest"

Thanks for doing that and posting it, airmanjerm! =D I'm so glad Williams wrote the alternate beginning. That statement of Parade of the Slave Children is so chilling. My goodness, I wish "The Child Returns" (with the alternate beginning) had been on the Concord release instead of the comparatively dull "The Old Priest."

Another wonderful cue - great work airmanjerm!

Are you able to upload all the cues you've done in a higher bitrate anywhere? If not, can any mods allocate you more space for attachments? I'd love to be able to have all of your fine work on display.

Thanks again!

If people wan to post bigger attachments than the board allows, just use www.megaupload.com and post the link here

Thanks for the compliments on these demos...

As for the higher bit rates, I can create higher bit-rate files here in my office, but I work on a military base (naturally!), and megaupload is blocked by the firewall. (Probably a good thing, although in this case it's a drag).

As for the cue, the end of the previous cue ("The Old Priest") is written to cadence on a D unison, which would actually lead into either of these cues. The last few notes of that one actually overlap the Alternate Beginning of "The Child Returns," and would have been able to overlap the Original Beginning just as well.

I think (personally) it was to incorporate the theme...timing could have been an issue, but my bet would be on the theme.

Jeremy if you have anything big you want to post you can email them to me and I can upload them to megaupload for you (you should have my email address already if not I can PM it to you again).

Thanks Jason....could you PM your address to me again? I will send you a lossless version of this cue.

ALSO: I have managed to get a recording of our band's performance of John Williams tunes at the Warner Grand Theater back in November and will send Jason the recording of them performing my adaptation of "Anything Goes" from TOD so he can put links for them up here.

It is a well-known theater, but unfortunately had some of the worst acoustics imaginable for the people on stage. Our vocalist had to practically scream to be heard, which is unfortunate, but fortunately the recording is pretty good, just a little "dry." The band played pretty well, aside from a couple split notes, but it's a hard chart so that's not out-of-the-question.

That will be cool to hear! What other pieces did you do, I'd actually like to hear whatever else you did, if it's possible!

I did arrangements of three other JW vocals: "Big, Beautiful Ball," "Nice to Be Around," and "If We Were in Love."

I'll try to get copies of these recordings if I can (I want them for my records as well). Some of the other tunes like the Star Wars selections, etc., didn't sound that great on the recording...the band played them well, but that dry hall really made our group sound like a little tiny chamber ensemble instead of 45+ musicians.

It's a shame that a bad hall can break a good performance. The main recital hall at my college has very dry air and yet a very echoey sound. It works fine for vocalists and some of the more direct instruments - but for us horn players...it kills us! Any technical passage I play in there is lost in the hall unless I use a board that we made to reflect the horn's sound forward immediately.

Yes...I wasn't at the performance at the Warner Grand but all of our people were remarking on how horrible the acoustics were on stage.

I saw a documentary about the Sydney Opera House a few weeks ago. As beautiful and remarkable as the structure itself is, the architect was taking too long, so they fired him after the building was constructed and hired a new guy to do the insides. As a result, the hall's acoustics are apparently pretty bad. (**Not to offend anyone from Australia! lol**) It's really a shame, since the structure is so intriguing!

Hey Phbart the best part of you putting up that little visual is that your John Williams avatar looks like he's reacting to seeing it over there....haha!

EDIT: Forgive me if this post seems sarcastic. I thought that it was hilarious, but I dislike using "emoticons" to display my feelings.

Haha yes sarcasm doesn't translate well into print, BUT for this one I completely knew what you meant...lol

Jeremy, did you remove your mp3 of the alt begining to the child returns? I never got a chance to download it and now its gone

I listened to your orginal beginning file and its good stuff ;)

If you ever feel like doing that entire cue feel free, as its riddled with sound effects in the dvd rip :)

Yes, had to remove it in order to attach the original intro. I'll put the alternate back up in the morning if you'd like, since there's now a link to download the Original from Megaupload.

Thanks, and I'll look to see how long the full cue is in the morning when I get to work...may be easy to do that in the morning.

In all seriousness, thanks again for all your good work!

I plan on putting them all on www.indianajonesmusic.com (assuming of course everybody who made them doesn't mind that), I just haven't yet

Oh yes, my mistake.

That is a great cue. Shame it was left off Disc 5.

Oh I love it don't get me wrong. Especially the variation of Short Round's Theme that I had never actually noticed before in the film. But A Child Returns is an important cue that should've been in the set somewhere

Small rant on this subject:

I wish we had the real penitent man will pass, too.

And why do we get the Castle Brunwald sneaking music labeled as "father and son reunited" when the father isn't even in the scene!? The real "father and son reunited" would have been great for Disc 5.

Back to topic:

Jason,

Not sure if you've seen any of my confused ramblings on your website - but it boils down to this:

Are you SURE that the 9m2 Untitled cue is "keeping up with the Joneses"? There seems to be a different opening to the "birds of charlamagne" in the film that I think might be the 9m2 New Opening - and the bootleg track might be the original 9m2.

I'm grasping at straws here, but it's a question that has been bothering me for a while now. Ever since those cue sheets surfaced...

There's no such thing as "9m2 New Opening". Just "9m2 New Ending".

And we have the sheet music to it. It's the bootleg track. And we have the sheet music to 9m2 Final Ending. Its the new ending of the track as heard in the film.

We just don't have the sheet music to the original 9m2. But I have no reason to believe that it's not "Keeping Up With The Joneses" from the OST/Concord

I see. Well that clears some questions up - but I still have doubts, for the numerous reasons we've discussed on your site - that Williams would write "keeping Up With The Jonses" as underscore for the biplane/car chase.

On another note, I will hopefully have access to a more complete collection of the sheet music for all three films in the near future. If you have any other lingering questions, let me know and I will do my best to investigate them.

I'm not trying to say I am 100% sure I am right or anything, just that we have no proof one way or the other, and this seems to be the most likely case.

NO way!!!! The biggest mysteries to be solved the sheet music pages we don't have are of course the 9m2 mystery, the tank chase sequence mystery, and just of course what the official cue titles are for all the ones we don't have. Hopefully you'll make the sheet music available to others to investigate as well smile.gif

I will certainly try. Hoping to get access to them soon, but it depends on a few things lining up in my favor. I'll keep you posted.

So things to look for are:

"Birds of Charlamagne / Keeping Up With The Joneses" - what's the story on these cues? Was "Joneses" composed for the biplane chase?

"Belly of The Steel Beast" "On The Tank" "Indy vs. Vogel" - Which came first and why all the inserts? Specifically why is "Belly" so long and unused?

Do we know for sure that the circus organ is a sweetner and not just burred in the sound mix of "Indy's First Adventure"?

Did John Williams compose the Rope Bridge cue from ToD?

and any other unknown cue titles I can find.

And any specific questions for ToD and Raiders?
