There has never actually been any unreleased OT music in videogames, unless you count the mysteriously good-sounding ESB remixes in Republic Commando.

Could anyone post a list with all the alternates from Empire Strikes Back?

How to edit the alternate Ice planet Hoth onto the Main titles for instance?

Where's the alternate in Carbon Freeze (If I'm not mistaken) and which segment would it replace?

Aren't there two end credits on the Anthology?

Maybe this has been answered already, but in the liner notes of the special edition of A New Hope, it says that the film/album version of Main Title/Rebel Blockade Runner is taken from three different takes. (Takes 18, 19, and 20, to be precise. Or the last three takes on track 13 of the Special Edition ANH soundtrack.) So I was wondering which comes from what take? In other words, if I were to (using the bonus track from disc 1 the ANH special edition soundtrack) recreate the film version of Main Title/Rebel Blockade Runner, which portions of what takes would I use and where?

I was curious, does anyone know of a good recording of "May the Force Be With You..." at least I think that's the name... it's Luke's/the force theme...

I have a book that had the theme and I kinda arranged it--years ago--for a small string orchestra.

I was just curious if there was ever a recording of the full theme--including b section wich is never heard in the score... it's such a cool piece... is there a concert arrangement floating around?

I noticed that myself, but I don't own that cd and I always wonderd what exactly it is... A cd of concert suites? Has anyone heard that track...is it worth it?

I've listened to both the preview on iTunes and on Amazon... I'm tempted to buy it... but I don't really want to if it's not really what I'm looking for...

Ok, so I buckled and bought it on iTunes... (which means I need to burn it to a cd now... oye)

But Han and the Princes...A-Maaa-Zing. not amazing... it's a-mAAA-zing. lol

Unfortunately, I i'm listening to "May the Force Be With You" and it's not quite what I'd hoped... it's pretty much what you normally hear. Nice orchestrations but not what I was hoping 8O... thanks though

So ... maybe there is one out there?

I guess my other question is , when they write the solo instrument books with the themes... where does that come from? I mean, I've never heard this B Section before anywhere... but it sounds distinctively John Williams... it doesn't sound invented for the book...

I'm not sure what you're talking about - but might that "B section" be the melody featured in the beginning of "The Rebel Fleet/End Title"?

That's part of it! Hey! lol...

It starts to do it, but then stops.

0:32-0:38 is the start.... but then it goes on... there is more...

I got it from the Star Wars (original trilogy themes) piano book...

So, hey, I just wanted to put it out there that I have now 4 versions of Lapti Nek if anyone would like to hear them.

I just finished editing a clean Film Version of Lapti nek, ripped from the original tapes, and the making of tape, layered with the instrumental track that I also have now.

I have the album version (which most do)

I also have the extended ALbum version

I also have the instrumental track

And lastly, I have the film version vocal-less track.

Alll of this thanks to Lord Skylark. I would, however, like to hear some feedback on the film version edit I did so if anyone is interested, let me know.

These will also be on my complete edit for ROTJ when I get there.

These new portions are excellent, you got 'm of a video game apparently?

I myself won't be burning the film versions on my own complete edit because I want it completely SFX less but they're as good as it gets!

One question, does everything 'unreleased' from the extended album version come from the instrumental (second portion) track? Or is there a difference?

That instrumental track is really great btw :D

Also, where did you get the opening for the album track? I seem to remember that cymbal thing is in worse quality on the anthology...?

You'd really have to ask Lord Skylark where the files came from.

You say worse quality, but it's because the Album version is a synth crash of some sort, this is a real gong sound...

This was taken from an LP as far as I know. I had to speed up the track and tune it up a hair in the process. There was some hiss and occasional pops but I cleaned those up.

What I used to replicate the film Lapti Nek was taken from the Instrumental track, yes... but I augmented it with film rip. I also used a rip from the making of the OT Tape which plays Lapti Nek to near completion almost completely clean. A little bit of editing and cleaning up and I got that...It needs some tweaking... but I like it...

I'll have to ask this again in the hope Jim Ware or Neil are tuning in.

Could anyone post timings as to the alternate inside the cue Carbon Freeze in Empire Strikes Back?

More importantly, for which exact segment is this an alternate?

What's the deal exactly with the alternate end credits from Empire on Disc 4 of the Anthology?

Also, do you also hear a strange edit at 3:11 in this track?

Thanks!

By the way, that link to the PDF with the mixes in Empire doesn't work anymore... :D

What I meant was does everything unreleased in the "First Portion" come from the "Second Portion"? Or is there extra material in the first portion compared the second?

(Bump.)

Concerning the chrono ESB, I have taken the alternate Carbon Freeze segment (2:39-3:21) and used it to make an alternate Carbon Freeze cue, replacing the segment at 3:21 - 4:00, which I think is the correspondent film version segment.

Could anyone shed some light on the alternate end credits found on Disc 4 of the Anthology?

Just to confirm, 2:39-3:20 is an alternate version of 3:20-3:59 (timings are for the SE).

I have used the SE wherever possible because of the superior sound quality.

Not exactly. The Anthology features some reversed channels, badly tuned music, and cuts. Finding and editing the best sources can be a bitch. For example, for the track "The Wampa's Lair," you'll want to use the SE for the opening measure because the Anthology cuts off the beginning a little bit, but the Anthology for the rest of the cue, because at one point there is some odd shuffling/hissing on the SE.

Ok. I listened to some ESB SE today... that mix sounds ok.

I'm so tainted by the ROTJ SE mix that I almost don't listen to them anymore. ANH sounds fine though... but I know a lot of complaints had surfaced over ESB and ROTJ so...

As long as you were careful, then it must be good.

Also beware... the ESB SE has a lot of tracks that are remixed and sped up so there may be something wrong with the speed of the Anthology... I dunno what to tell you but you may want to check the speed of the Anthology against the SE to make sure that the bits you used from the Anthology are the right speed and such.

Case and point, "Imperial March." I'm not sure which mix I like better. Anthology has deeper bass, but the SE mix is much more of a narrow mix, is sped up, and has less bass in the mix... dunno what to say which you should use...

But again, if you're carefull, I'm sure you could have a great edit. :-D

So... has anyone been checking the new DVD releases? Their menu's have some really great sounding music... I havn't checked them all ...I've only opened ROTJ... and I think we have good versions of the menu music... but it may be something worth checking on all the sets?

Sorry to post again, but this kinda is something I want people to take note of:

I've never seen any of the films as they originally were... Like... ever...

I just watched most of ROTJ as the original original release and I'm just...confused as ever.

There were clicks before people would speak...signs of their dialogue being clicked in and out..

And 'Yub-Nub' is neither version on the albums... sooo... now It looks like that's something else to add to myrip list. I was just wondering if that film version had ever been released somehow?

There were some instruments in this film mix that were different. and The choir seemed to be human, not Ewok, and they seemed to be right in front...no real echo... sounded like a smaller group... until the end though... that's when it went to the anthology version.

Just asking a stupid question here....is there anything in the Anthology that the SEs don't have? I'd like to make a totally complete set, but I'm not well versed enough to know if there's any alternates, unused music, or anything like that on the Anthology. Or is everything on the Anthology in the SEs, just with better mixes?

The Anthology has an alternate of "Leia's News" that's not on the SE (with a quote of "Parade of the Ewoks") and it has some alternate takes (such as the "Shuttle Tydirium" cue), but you have to listen for those differences. And of course the "Lapti Nek" and "Yub Nub" cues are on the Anthology but not the SEs.

If I were you, I'd go about it the other way around... at least for ROTJ...

I'd use the SE's from ANH and ESB but for ROTJ, THAT'S when I'd use the anthology and then toss in cues from the SE.

I say this because the Anthology has much better quality sounding tracks than the SE in almost ALL cases.

Your best bet may be to ty looking at the first page of this thread... it's a bit confusing, but if you have all the sets hady, it can help a bit.

If I were doing what you are dong I'd do this:

Episode IV - SE

Episode V - SE (Although you may want to add the Anthology version of Imperial March as it is mixed much better.

I dont' really have the time to say what would be on the ROTJ... give me a little while and I'll post some info... unless anyone else wants to cover it.

The anthology also contains some film edits in TESB. The two cues that come to mind are Rebel Fleet / End Credits and The Falcon's escape from Hoth or whatever the hell it's name is now.

Both involve sections of the love theme trimmed from the cue.

It's not in the first post that I can tell. It just lists how to edit them. But much of that could be for sound quality reasons. Of course, I didn't really look at ROTJs, so that could be the case.

Here's a good question.

Was the '97 Special Edition Soundtrack for ANH mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital?

I know it wasn't noted in the booklet anywhere but, when I switched my stereo to 5.1 mode,ANH was apparently firing on all speakers.

Thoughts?

I wonder that myself... but from what I'm told, they didn't have a lot of time to work on these edits because the recording studio they were in was slated to begin recording...was it Independance Day or something?

they didn't have much time...and one of the guys they hired didn't have an ear for orchestral music or know anything about how to properly mix John Williams scores because he not only narrowed the mix in a lot of cues for ESB, but he also flipped channels in the brass in almost EVERY cue he worked on...

so yea...

I believe there was a post at FSM, by those who actually worked on it, that explained some of the problems with the Anthology and why it ended up with the mix it has.

You mean with the SE... the Anthology isn't mixed incorrectly... I mean, ESB from what I've heard is said to have sounded like it was recorded in a basement... but past that
