Indiana Jones Unreleased Music Resource

Just a random mention: I just wrapped up my post-Indy 4 viewing of the "classic" Indys with a viewing of the main Making Of doc from the original DVD release (an excellent doc, by the way). There is a ton of unreleased ToD music used as BGM during it, mostly from Underground Heroics and the rope bridge sequence. More grist for the consipiracy theorists...

This is kind of tricky, but if you take the URL of that file and copy and paste it into your address bar, it won't redirect you to JWFAN.com. Sorry; best I could do with free web hosting.

Although it's probably not really the best I could do. I'll try to fix it.

Ah, well that kinda works. I'd gotten around the redirect problem by just saving the file. But although I can play it in the browser now, I still can't get iTunes or Audacity to open the file.

Regarding the Lego Indy game released today ... I won't be distributing anything (so please don't PM me with requests), but I can give some info regarding the game's music files. In a nutshell, what we have is a mix of previously released music from all three films, a few cues from Bajakian's "Emperor's Tomb" score, a good deal of original material (a surprising amount, actually), including some fun disco/nightclub versions of the Raiders March, and...

YES, there is unreleased music from Temple of Doom. Not a ton, but more than a few seconds -- more than a few minutes, in fact. And it's VERY revealing. We can now lay to rest any debate or speculation: the original recordings still exist (not just the film stems, given the material included) -- and furthermore, they exist in brilliant sound quality. For while these mp3s are mildly lossy, and some contain ambient FX to varying degrees, the source is clearly pristine. I'm still working on cataloging/verifying everything, but here's what we've got so far.

MAP TEMPLEOFDOOM -- This is "Over The Himalayas", but only the map-travel segment. It has a clean fade-out. No FX.

TD BATTLEONTHEBRIDGE A ACT -- Contains a good portion of "Water!", and while it's edited, there are several bars of music here which were CUT from the film, and which have never before been heard!

TD BATTLEONTHEBRIDGE C QUI -- Mostly original game music, but with some unreleased rope bridge percussion towards the end.

TD BATTLEONTHEBRIDGE D QUI -- The middle portion contains a good chunk of unreleased rope bridge percussion. For the ends, see PANKOTSECRETS A & B QUI...

TD BATTLEONTHEBRIDGE E QUI -- Even more unreleased rope bridge percussion, moving towards the climax.

TD FREETHESLAVES A QUI -- The second half of this file is the beginning of "The Legend of Sankara", although not the whole cue.

TD FREETHESLAVES C ACT -- Update: This is actually released music from "Slave Children's Crusade".

TD FREETHESLAVES D ACT -- Unreleased music from "Underground Heroics" (leading up to the climactic version of Short Round's theme).

TD KALISTEMPLE B ACT -- Contains an unreleased portion of "The Ceremony", mainly surrounding the fight to rescue Willie.

TD PANKOTSECRETS A ACT -- Update: IDed as the moment from LC when Young Indy falls into the snake car.

TD PANKOTSECRETS A QUI/TD PANKOTSECRETS B QUI -- This is a huge find: an ALTERNATE version of "They Stole The Children", with MUCH greater emphasis on the Sankara Stones theme. In fact, this is a lengthier, more developed treatment of this theme than actually appears in the finished film! The merged file is 3:22, and sounds like a continuous recording. Again, an absolutely extraordinary find!

Anyway, that's everything I noticed at first blush. But don't take it to be comprehensive. I also didn't notice any unreleased material from Raiders or Last Crusade, but that doesn't mean there isn't any...

I will post more if I discover more, as I'm sure others will.

Awesome! Can't wait to go through these files.

By the way, John, a gameplay video attests to the cue "Stealing the Stones" being in there somewhere (the part where Indy hears the children's screams after stealing the stones).

Some observations:

It appears that only the Temple of Doom master tapes were on hand for this. You can hear album edits in the Crusade material.

The only file that is absolutely free of sound effects is MAP TEMPLEOFDOOM ("Over the Himalayas"), and it is marvelous to hear. However, almost every other track seems to have a light to heavy rumbling noise under it. TD_KALISTEMPLE_B_ACT has perhaps the lightest rumbling.

I'm really skeptical of the alternative "They Stole the Children." It just doesn't sound like Williams.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Not only does it sound like Williams to me, especially in the way the Sankara Stones melody is developed, but...

a) None of the other original material (with the exception of the Emperor's Tomb cues, which quote the Raiders March) utilizes any Williams material whatsoever, whereas this cue develops the Sankara theme and quotes the Slave Children theme. Furthermore, most of the original material is very good synthesizers, whereas this is plainly live instruments.

b) The chimes, percussion, Indian instruments -- all present throughout the TOD score -- are here, and utilized the same way they were in the rest of the score.

c) The overall shape and length of the music conforms very closely to "They Stole The Children".

Bottom line, I'm 100% convinced.

Not having the said files I couldn't tell you, but It could be by William Ross

This is so sad,the unreleased ToD music beeing used in a GAME played by 10year olds who have no idea about the music and we still get the old stinkin OST re-issue

I can assure you that this game isn't for 10 year old kids only. There will be plenty of adults playing this game.

I didn't mention the cutscene audio because they're typically so FX-riddled as to be not much fun for editing purposes, but you're right -- there are lots of snippets of unreleased music to be heard there.

Does the music from Emperor's Tomb just play over the menu scenes or is it actually involved in game play?

KM, Mark O is very correct about what he just said here. Adults play the Lego games too they did for Star Wars and I'm sure they will for Indiana Jones. I want to pick up the Star Wars ones one day they look fun.

I got mine in a Super Jewel Case, and I love it!!! Better than the Jewel Case, methinks...

I bought mine in Germany.

I think somebody already posted the KotCS album in a Super Jewel Case. But the SJC looks like this.

Personally, I love it even more than the regular jewel case!

:P

Uh ok.

Whoops, talk about a non sequitur. I think I posted my reply in the wrong thread! Sorry 'bout that!

Since we know the Concord box set is only 1CD per score, there's no way it'd have room for Temple of Doom alternates

Better than nothing

It is a true unreleased highlight

The Water! cue is effing brilliant also

I hope the last part of underground heroics is in there

Well I've played the first level of Raiders and most of the music used is from "Main Title: South America, 1936", "In the Idol's Temple" and "Flight from Peru".

Also, the second half of the cue "Ahh, Rats!" from Last Crusade is used. There is some music I didn't recognize that was used in a room you have to access. I'm not familiar with the video game music John Takis said was included.

The game is basically played the same way as the Star Wars game. Although it's gonna take me awhile to get used to not having blasters and lightsabers. Lot of hand to hand combat.

The college serves as the background for the main menu, although it's not Marshall College.

Some of the music that plays while you're roaming the hallways, rooms and outside are the Grail theme, Marion's theme and some of the quieter moments of the Raiders march.

TD FREETHESLAVES A QUI -- The second half of this file is the beginning of "The Legend of Sankara", although not the whole cue.

And aren't the first 10 seconds the music used when the snake slithers around Willie's neck and she thinks it's the elephant?

Good news - it turns out these MP3 files we're dealing with have been compressed from their original source (OGG format), which sounds significantly better. I'll be uploading a selection of all the Temple of Doom material (no point in sharing the other stuff since it's album material, and if you're interested in hearing the original game music, which isn't too bad, you might as well just buy the game). PM...

Could you give a time stamp? Because to me it seems like one continuous cue.

for now,the only bits I've included as real add ons to the OST is British Fanfare (from FSM podcast) and Over the Himalayas. Too bad the low rumble taints the Water! cue.

Damn, "Water!" and Over "The Himalayas" from these OGGs are brilliant... and I have a new appreciation for the rope bridge percussion music now too!

Why oh why won't somebody smart release a real 2disc complete score...

Also: Since the british percussion fanfare isn't in here, we know that the FSM guys didn't literally use the files from this game for their podcast.... but they do appear to have access to the same unreleased TOD music that the makers of this game were given access to.

Does this indicate that at least the TOD masters are now preserved in some kind of digital format? Not necessarily in preparation for a release, but preserved digitally, at the very least?

So for anyone besides me playing the game, it looks like they didn't license "Anything Goes" for the TOD section of the game.

Wonder if that music was created especially for the game because the night club brawl doesn't really use any of original material composed by Williams.

It's been worth the purchase so far.

The only disappointment is the non-Williams music that is used.

At least I'm not whining about it and threatening / cursing Lucasfilm.

well you know ,it's my thing...Complete or Expanded Indy,Harry Potter and SW Prequels scores. I'll curse Lucasfilm and whatever studio not releasing them all I want for that.

But I don't go on a rampage over a painted matte changed for a CG one or the sound mix slightly altered in DVD releases of films.

Thanks Henry.

I was just opening a random file from the previous batch, LC Escape D Qui, and that's unreleased music from the Transylvania episode from The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (it's on the promo from that episode). Would there be other orchestral music in there that until now we thought it was original game music? It'd be great if there's other Young Indy music in there too, although I guess that's there because there's precisely that promo that's out.

Just checking some random tracks and there's music here and there that sounds as it might come from Young Indiana Jones. But I'm not that familiar with Bajakian's game soundtrack so I can't tell which music is from there (as John described). I'd guess the other orchestral music is from the series.

In the cutscenes folder, in BOB OUTROEND, is that the film version of the TOD finale?

And is some of PANKOTSECRETS MIDRO the feast music?
