I get the feeling that the Indy 4 craze we've been experiencing for the past few weeks (or months?!) here is slowly coming to an end (just 1 week after the movie was released), and everyday life is resuming. The boring rutt that's called life. I remember vividly how we obsessed about every bit of new information on the score, about track times, about whether the score included 50s songs or not, about the sound clips. And how almost 50 members were logged on at the same time when the first clips were released on amazon.com. Good times!

So how does everybody feel right now? Disappointed? Silly and embarrassed, for the way they acted? Overjoyed and still exhilarated about the score? A kind of inner peace? Or already anxious for the new JW score (maybe another Indy!), which might appear who-knows-when?

Tell us how you feel at this moment!

P.S. I feel definitely overjoyed and exhilarated about the score still, and also a little silly for the way I obsessed about the score before its release. But that's also what's so wonderful about a new JW score. ;)

I remain grateful for the new music. Thanks, Maestro.

I also remain grateful for the new movie ;) Thanks, Steven and George (and please make no more of it, ok?) ;)

A little silly and embrassed, I think. But I still repeat the same thing every time a movie like this comes along. Sure, we're a little nerdy and some are downright obsessive, but the bottom line is, waiting in a thread for a leaked track is FUN. There's some good conversation, and while rumors run rampant and panic spreads, it's a fun time if you have no where else to be or nothing else to do.

I wish I would've had a forum like this growing up in the 80's. I collected soundtracks on cassette tape as a kid and could memorize every note... Would've been nice to have like-minded people to talk to. I still look forward to every new John Williams soundtrack release with every bit as much enthusiasm as I did when I was a kid.

Is that all you can think of? ;)

Feel the same way I did before hand.

Wasn't expecting much, didn't receive much.

Well everyone can't agree on everything so you can expect criticism.

I'm satisfied with what we got, film and score. I'm already looking forward to the DVD.

As far as the board goes, I wouldn't mind things calming down a bit (which they already have).

I really dig the score and I like the movie. I really can't wait for an extended release in 50 years or so.

And I say, "Bring on Indy 5!"

Posted

I say "Shoot zem.....shoot zem all"

Moving on. I like the score very much; it'll get plenty more listens. The movie can wait till the fall... Maybe I'll wait until we have a Blu-Ray player to buy it.

I am extremely pleased with both film and score. While I can't see the score surpassing the originals (though I love it), I think the film may, given a few more viewings, be as good as the originals in my opinion.

I am a bit dissapointed just because the craze is slowing dying, and the anticipation was awesome. I'm not sure I'll ever be so excited for a movie in my life. But in terms of overall product, I couldn't be happier. I'd say the only thing I'm dissapointed about, in terms of actual result, is that we won't be getting expanded/complete Indy scores (most likely). But all the new stuff was great.

Having said that, there are many things to look forward. Many more listens with the new score. The release of the DVD (and watching all the special features). And the always possible possibility of expanded/complete Indy scores (for all 4).

EDIT: I'm also going to miss the tons and tons of Indy threads made. Especially that one day (I think it was the day the tracklist was released), when everybody started posting all these joke threads. That really made me smile. <_< And after the film was released, there was tons as well. General Discussion was almost completely abandoned.

The release of Indy 4 was the biggest we've ever had here to my memory, even topping the Star Wars prequels. There's never been a sub-forum created for just one release before.

Why thank you John....<_<

You're going to keep reminding us of that until the day you die, aren't you? <_<

It was a good idea though, it kept things from getting too cluttered.

I feel better about it the more I see it. I saw it for the third time today with my cousin (who saw it Wednesday and loved it--still does), and everything is just making more sense. The jungle chase, while I still don't care for all the digital backgrounds, has gotten better the more I see it. The pacing and structure of it as an Indy set piece just really kind of clicked for me today. I'm becoming more appreciative of the great stuff, and more forgiving/understanding of the negative stuff. I really want to read the book, as that may help quench my thirst for better character development, even if only in my mind, and I can hardly wait for the DVD (especially for the unreleased music, of which there's actually good stuff--and on an unrelated note, I'm hearing some non-quoted stuff in "Spell of the Skull" that's really giving me a cool Raiders feeling). Here's hoping they pull out all the stops for the boxed set this fall/winter.

I feel a little disappointed. By the movie, yes, but even more so by the score. The movie was watchable, and a good movie by itself, it just doesn't quite feel like an Indiana Jones movie. But I was expecting that.

I was also, however, expecting JW to completely make up for the movie with an amazing score. I was sorely disappointed there. About a fourth of the music is reused themes from the others. The new themes are ok, but relatively unimpressive. The best parts are the chase pieces, although they are mostly just cut and paste JW-chase-scene-orchestration using the other themes established. Plus, while watching the movie, the entire score came across as background noise, as opposed to being a part of the story as with the other three. As much as I would love to see Williams receive another Oscar, I really don't think he deserves it for this one. Now don't get me wrong, it is still a good score, but as far as JW's music goes, it's mediocre at best.

On the other hand, both John Powell's amazing score to Horton Hears a Who and Michael Giacchino's score to Speed Racer succeeded in every way KotCS failed, so at least this summer has not been an entire disappointment for music. Plus we've still got Dark Knight and The Happening to look forward to.

All around solidly disappointed, thank you.

How're the kids?

I was satisfied both by the film and score, although probably more for the score. It never matched any of the original three, but I was never expecting or asking it to. It wasn't great by any means and is indeed very flawed, and to be honest there is a certain level of disappointment that comes with it (by what it could have been). But as of now I'd have to say it was good enough for me.

Exactly.

This is, for me also, the most excited I have ever been about the release of a movie/score. After that comes Prisoner of Azkaban.

can't wait to hear what zimmer delivers this time... :D

I expect many brilliant variations on Zimmer's brilliant Batman theme. The brilliant score for the first film was just brilliant. The awesomeness of Zimmer's scores just cannot be denied with the way he brilliantly develops his themes through the brilliant underscore.

It's brilliant, I tells ya!

What a brilliant post! :D

I'm fairly happy with the film, although it has many flaws in my view. It clearly wasn't sensible to expect anything as great as the original movies, but what we got was a solid 2 hours of entertainment.

I'm warming to the score a lot more, although it still doesn't quite reach the expectations I had. It's a superb Johnny score, but lacks something that would make it a true Indy score.

Yeah, well it's more the JNH influence that I am anticipating.

They're both doing fine and also extremely disappointed with the new Indy film.

Well, I can't really say...

I feel very quiet about everything, yet I'm still as excited about this as I was a few weeks ago. Last Wednesday, I had the chance to watch it again, and it was like the first time, with all the anxiety growing inside...

I still hope to catch it again at least one more time, but for now, let me just say "Thank You!"

I was never that excited to begin with. Before it came out I felt it was an unnecessary sequel. Now that it's out, I KNOW it is an unnecessary sequel. I hoped for a good score at least, but that didn't happen. The best thing to come of this is that great book on the making of all four films. I read a great deal of it in Barnes and Noble yesterday while the wife was shopping.

:sleepy::) While that is a nice imitation, I must say that BB is not one of my favorite Zimmer scores. I never really got into it much, actually.

And indy4 gains some credibility points...

More like 1 to 2 percent (if that) was reused. I am sure you'll see that one day and appreciate the new score's uniqueness.

Stuff you don't like can always be ignored, but good stuff that came out of it can't be enjoyed if not for the bad stuff in the first place. So be happy anyway. :sleepy:

And the score is good.

Personally, I love the score and movie, but I feel a little disappointed so many jwfan members seem to be disappointed by the score AND movie. :)

I'm also surprised so many people are disappointed with the score. It's weird.

I'm wondering what it would've been like if JW had scored Sex and the City! :)

It would've been even jazzier than CMIFC, probably.

I wonder if we would have been THAT excited about the big opening of SATC, no pun intended!!!

It seems to me that most people here are happy with the score, some people just complain about the Raiders references. The movie is the only thing I've seen a real negative reaction to.

Aside from a great new film and score, I got something else. In the months of preperation for May 22, I pretty much listened to only Indy scores. I really warmed up to the scores that I've owned for several years now. I knew most of the highlight in LC, but the others I really (I mean REALLY) did know well enough (though I thought I did). Here are some of the knockout cues that I rediscovered in the pre-Indy warmup. It is shocking when I look back at how many great cues I was so ignorant towards:

"Desert Chase"

"The German Sub/To the Nazi Hideout"

"Main Title: South America"

"Flight from Peru"

"Journey to Nepal"

"The Medallion"

"The Map Room: Dawn" (this one I kinda knew, but now I've really come to love it. I'd say this and "Scherzo" are my favorite Indy cues)

"Reunion And The Dig Begins"

"The Miracle of the Ark"

"Fast Streets of Shanghai" (includes my new favorite Raiders March variation at the end)

"Nocturnal Activities"

"Short Round's Theme"

"The Temple of Doom"

"The Minecar Chase"
