#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Tom Conti is turning in his grave!
Morlock 11 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Very nice. A bit odd, but very nice. Being one of those strage people who genuinely enjoys the Oscar telecast, I very much look forward to it.
Morlock 11 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Giacchino, naturally. He's the cure to all of film music's problems.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Well I'll bet he will do a nice job playing other people's tunes. He certainly has exprience with it.Should this not go in the official Giachimino thread?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 He can't, but the academy does not know that yet.
JoeinAR 1,955 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I wonder if they will introduce him as "The Next John Williams"?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 More likely the "previous Chris Tilton".
Maglorfin 218 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 That's somewhat disappointing, I was keeping my fingers crossed for JW or Conti.
Erik Woods 828 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 He can't, but the academy does not know that yet.Yes, he can!He has conducted the Northwest Sinfonia during the Frontline sessions, a frenetic performance of The Incredibles with the LA Youth Orchestra and conducted portions of his Lost Symphony in Hawaii. There are probably more examples but he is fully qualified to do it.As for not conducting during recording sessions... he likes the set up and his working relationship with Tim Simonec so there is no reason to change. They have been working that way (Tim conducts, Michael in the booth) since the beginning of their collaboration.-Erik-
John Crichton 4 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Giacchino, naturally. He's the cure to all of film music's problems.Preach it, brother!....Hm, remind me never to say that again.
Lurker 5 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Should this not go in the official Giachimino thread?Who?Neil
Luke Skywalker 2,322 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 very nice.He is getting early recognition But i also didnt knew he knew conducting. Nice to know he does
Red 75 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 That's somewhat disappointing, I was keeping my fingers crossed for JW or Conti.Yeah, it would be great to have Williams do it. Maybe some other time. But this is pretty cool.
Ollie 1,364 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 The last time Williams did it he had 2 scores nominated and lost to Howard Shore.
Red 75 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Deservedly...Possibly. I love Fellowship, but A.I. and Sorcerer's Stone are great scores.
BurgaFlippinMan 7 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Deservedly...I think FOTR, AI and Potter were all equally deserving that year.
Luke Skywalker 2,322 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 AI rules over the other two. PERIOD
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 AI rules over the other two. PERIOD Indeed.
indy4 160 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Giacchino deserves to conduct. He hasn't won an Oscar since Schindler's List, maybe this will bring him back into the Academy's eyes.
Marian Schedenig 11,335 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I still don't like it (<--- AI) much.
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Giacchino deserves to conduct. He hasn't won an Oscar since Schindler's List, maybe this will bring him back into the Academy's eyes. What?
Smeagol 0 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Giacchino deserves to conduct. He hasn't won an Oscar since Schindler's List, maybe this will bring him back into the Academy's eyes. What? Cool news. No idea he could conduct. We'll see how it goes. When are the oscars next year?
KittBash 360 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Looks like a reason to watch the oscars this year
indy4 160 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Looks like a reason to watch the oscars this year...other than watching KotCS win.
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 If KOTCS wins I'll eat my left foot.
John Crichton 4 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 If Indy 4 is nominated I'll eat my sock. If it wins I'd eat my whole leg.
Morn 8 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Great! Who's hosting then, Jon Stewart again? Or some other guy who's never won an oscar?
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I hope Ricky Gervais gets to host. He's been talked about lately.
Docteur Qui 1,581 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 OH boy, that would be amazing. Enough for me to tune in for once!
Wojo 2,458 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I deleted what I wrote here for being in poor taste. Is it possible that a single artist being nominated for two distinct entries in the same category is more of a detriment than an honor? If it's nominations you're after, than I guess not, but if you seek victory, then all that does is split your supporters into two camps, and allow a third party to win.I'm not talking about the election of 1912, either. I still think FOTR deserved the win.
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Giacchino deserves to conduct. He hasn't won an Oscar since Schindler's List, maybe this will bring him back into the Academy's eyes.Wait a minute....

That'll probably end up on Wikipedia now.
Morlock 11 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Anyone who trusts Wikipedia deserves what he/she gets.
Morn 8 Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Right, it's better to trust a single fallible expert.
