Kevin 23 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I don't understand the need to make a poll where a Williams score is put against anyone else's score. It's like asking a room full of Democrats if they like John McCain.
Luke Skywalker 2,322 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 John Williams is losing some polls.
Josh500 1,620 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 And the point of this thread is exactly... what?Discuss McCain's impact on the Democrats?
Kevin 23 Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 I just think it's rather silly to ask 'do you like this Williams score or ------ score better' to a group of rabid (a few more than rabid) Williams fans. Why ask when you know what the answer is goin g to be.

And we don't always know the answer.Jerry kicked Johnny's butt several times.... with Total Recall, Alien, etc.

Marian Schedenig 11,335 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Anyone ever heard of Heisenberg?
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Doesn't he get mentioned in The Lost World at one point?
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Yes, he created the Uncertainty Principle, which basically states that one cannot observe something without affecting it in some way. I have no idea if he was mentioned in "The Lost World", novel or film.
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Another fantastic thread from TheListener.

Why ask when you know what the answer is goin g to be.Get the f--k over it. If you don't want a Williams-centric conversation, don't come to a Williams-centric messageboard. Is there no such thing as common sense anymore? If I'm the one asking that question, then there must not be.I consider myself a rabid Williams fan, but that doesn't mean that I think the world stops and starts with John Williams. There are a small number of scores that I personally prefer to anything Williams has ever written. Why shouldn't I, or anyone else who maybe has their own such list, start a conversation to find out what other people think about it? If you want to call that silly, that's your prerogative, but go do it behind all our backs or something.
Jim 6,172 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I used to consider myself to be a "rabid Williams fan", but these days I'm just a really big fan. I've calmed down a lot - ten years ago every other word was "John Williams". JW this, JW that... Now (in my 'older' years) I have many inspirational people in my life. JW is just one of them, but when all is said and done, he is still the No.1 icon of my life.
Richard P 5,122 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 At one time, Williams was my #1, but in the last few years, I've found satisfaction in a very wide range of composers, so while I do consider JW the best from a technical standpoint, there are plenty who can match and excel his emotions IMO.I mean put AotC against, say, a Kamen score, and you've got a challenge, so yes, I think it can be interesting, even on a Williams-biased board.

Ollie 1,364 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Well this is a Williams fansite so expect him to dominate, but I agree with Richuk although Williams is still my #1 favorite.I will say that some people need to cool it on the polls. Not John C., those are worthwhile.
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Williams is amazing, but that doesn't mean other composers aren't as well. To say no one else can match a JW score is just stupid *cough*Mark*cough*

Or something like that.Which i dont know if has something to do with biological research as stated in the movie...

Trent B 354 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 The Listener...don't bother, it'll just fall on deaf ears for the most part. You're fighting a hopeless battle.

John Crichton 4 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 I will say that some people need to cool it on the polls. Not John C., those are worthwhile.Thank you sir, I try my best. I just hope people don't get burned out after this tournament, I have some other ideas floating around too.The charge of general blind Williams favoritism, as always, is an unfair one. There are plenty of dedicated film score fans here who get great enjoyment out of works by people not named John Williams. If you care to notice their comments that is, instead of just seeing what you want to see.
FBC Director 10,764 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 If you want guaranteed results, do more Williams vs. Zimmer polls.

Romão 2,458 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Sometimes I even feel, if anything, there's a lack of Williams' favoritism

Luke Skywalker 2,322 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Sometimes I even feel, if anything, there's a lack of Williams' favoritismsame here. And Trent, i came here for the reason the title of the network says. If i was a fan oll all film music i would be in some Filmscorefan.net or whatever.I dont know why you are making a small 'crusade' to change the very foundation of these forums. And you should already know that most of us also enjoy other composers.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 But aren't the Heisenberg Compensators designed to counteract this?
Williamsfan301 12 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Actually, yes, that was precisely their function with the transporter on Star Trek
