Jaws, Jaws 2, Star Wars, CE3K and Superman are excluded. And its only for post-Jaws scores cause I said so tongue.gif

I think this is the most interesting of the 4 polls, but The Fury will probably win. I personally only have the last 3 in my collection, and like them all.

As always, you are voting on the ENTIRE score, not just whatever portions have been officially released.

I am wondering if Black Sunday and Family Plot should be included at all, as they have yet to receive a release outside of a suite of some sort. I own the bottom three as well, and I will have to vote for The Fury.

EDIT: Hey, Jason, what about Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

Yes but you can vote based on what you heard when watching the movie

EDIT: Hey, Jason, what about Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

It's excluded, like ET is as well. I thought excluding them would make the polls more interesting.

From that list I'd go with The Fury as well.

We're lucky to have two versions including the brilliant Epilogue.

As much as I like th rest, The Fury just strikes me as a more complex and varied work.

Out of that list, I only have 1941, which I've never listened to. I'm afraid I'm not a huge collector or listener of non-franchise/blockbuster John Williams, of any decade.

Eiger Sanction, though if this poll were expanded to include all of the 1970s it would be Jane Eyre.

Good point. Jane Eyre would be my choice as well. But then again I can't choose between Jane Eyre and The Fury. Both remarkable scores in their respective genres.

Jason, you should do a 1969-1974 poll. Reivers, Jane Eyre, Cowboys, Towering Inferno... should be an interesting poll. But, I guess the disaster movies could be considered blockbusters though not on the level of Star Wars and E.T. and such.

Yup. (Which is exactly why the bugger restricted it... :) )

;)

Sad to say I am not familiar with any of the poll options.

Don't know this selection very well, but I'd have to go with 1941 followed by Black Sunday.

Haven't listened much to The Fury.

I am not familiar with Black Sunday and Family Plot.

1) Missouri Breaks easily!!

2) Eiger Sanction

3) Dracula

4) 1941

5) Jaws 2

The Fury is one of my least favorite JW albums.

Black Sunday is in my estimation Williams's finest thriller score, and it gets my vote. For some reason, I've tired of the main theme from The Fury over time, but the score still has its share of highlights, so I guess I'd go with that one for second place.

Family Plot, easily. Just thinking of that music in Karen Black's first scene where she crosses the road for the diamond ransom. Many of my top-rated unreleased JW tracks.

That part is so creepily awesome.

I am not familiar with Black Sunday and Family Plot. Out of the rest I like The Eiger Sanction the most. I have never been Dracula or The Fury fan, though I appreciate these scores.

EDIT: Why the hell it's post-Jaws poll? There is no Cinderella Liberty because of that.

Unacceptable. I'm embarrassed to post in the same forum as you.

You should be, you should be.

I'm somewhat bummed you and I are the only ones who selected Black Sunday. Hopefully it will soon see the light of day.

You are not aware that these titles (at least Black Sunday) are hard to get?

No excuses. ;)

A true JW fan would find a way to listen to Black Sunday.

Seriously, which album has a release of the Black Sunday suite? Where to get it? Has there been a full OST release?

Legally, the suite is available on this album:

Soundtrack Collector

You can do a search of Black Sunday there to answer anymore questions.

Ok, you made me. I am listening to Black Sunday. Sounds like Munich would have if it had been made back in the 70s.

Wha? Sounds nothing like Munich to me.

It doesn't, but if Munich had been made in the 70s, it would have certainly sounded like this.

Correct, but not as action oriented.

Of course.

Do you know which came first - Black Sunday or Close Encounters? Security Prep. sounds preety close to military motif from CEo3K.

There are a few similarities with Star Wars as well.

I'm not sure if he scored Black Sunday before or after Star Wars but it should have been before CE3K.

Well just go by theatrical release dates of the movies themselves:

Black Sunday: March 11 1977

Star Wars: May 25 1977

Close Encounters of the Third Kind: Nov 16 1977
