I was just quoting what somebody in the Intrada site mentioned. I never saw the Wolfen movie and Wikipedia offers zero plot insight, and I had forgotten about the rejected score bundle.

I have zero Les Baxter.

Michael Wadleigh's WOLFEN:

A construction tycoon gets murdered in NYC, and the NYPD led by Albert Finney believe it's a terrorist cell. However, more murders happen, including tramps around areas being demolished for construction, and pathologist Gregory Hines figures out it's an animal. Zookeeper Tom Noonan is consulted after a hair is found, and says it's related to the wolf family. Finney checks out the Native American contingent of NYC, led by "Crazy" Eddie (an occasionally very naked Edward James Olmos) who talks about shapeshifting. Turns out the killings are by hyper-intelligent eco-terrorist wolves who are angered at man invading their territory. Whether or not they are the Indians or something else is never made clear. There are no werewolf-style transformation scenes.

It's an interesting and very good film, and has a totally different slant than most werewolf movies.

Chrushercomix's heart just blew up!

Not blew up, but still got a jolt! ;) How come King Mark was the only one kind enough to send me a heads up on this one! ;) Thanks, KM! :)

HUGE Rocky IV and also HUGE Transformers: The Movie (1986 animated one) fan, and DiCola scored both. I am so happy to finally have both in pristine, complete, CD quality! I got TF:TM's complete score in Rochester, NY at the 1997 BotCon where it was 1st released. Problem was, I literally JUST missed meeting DiCola by a minute or two, as he left right before I got there. Damn!

I got the CD a couple of days ago and it is constantly playing while I work now. I blare it on a large surround system at work, and my brother, also a huge Rocky IV fan, gets to hear it too. "Heart's On Fire" and "Training Montage" are two of the best workout tracks of all time, and this soundtrack and score is generally loved as being a nice collection of great workout music.

However, this Intrada CD score is JUST the unreleased score. The OST CD had no film versions, and two DiCola tracks were album recordings. Also, "Up the Mountain" is basically the finale to "Heart's On Fire", which was written by DiCola dn performed by John Cafferty, considered part of the score (IMO) and is the highlight song of that movie, played during both an inspirational training session and the end credits. With a skillful edit of the original soundtrack, you can combine the two to make the complete cue from the movie.

If you have the original soundtrack (there is a 1st release and a 2006 remastsred release with vastly superior sound and an excellent bonus track - an unreleased Survivor song written for the movie and it should have made it, IMO), this is how to make the complete soundtrack.

Directions to make a "complete" score from both CD releases and one edit (which is exactly 79 minutes and change soundtrack). It flows much better than the score alone:

ROCKY IV: THE COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK

Complete Soundtrack in Chronological Order:

1. Eye of the Tiger (Survivor) from OST CD

2. Gym (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

3. Paulie's Robot (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

4. Anniversary (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

5. Drago's Suite (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

6. Living in America (James Brown) from OST CD

7. Apollo's Death & Funeral (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

8. Stairs (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

9. No Easy Way Out (Robert Tepper) from OST CD

10. Rocky and Son (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

11. Burning Heart (Survivor) from OST CD

12. Training Montage [Film Version] (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

13a. Heart's On Fire (John Cafferty/Vince DiCola) from OST CD [EDIT END INTO...]

13b. Up the Mountain (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

14. Pre-Fight (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

15. Drago's Entrance (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

16. War [Film Version] (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

17. Knockout (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

18. Victory (Vince DiCola) from Score CD

Bonus Tracks (Alternates & Source Music; Any order is OK, this was mine):

19. The Sweetest Victory (Touch) from OST CD - Unused

20. Man Against The World (Survivor) Bonus track from OST CD - Unused

21. Theme from ROCKY (Bill Conti, Arranged & Performed by Vince DiCola) from Score CD - Unused

22. Training Montage [Album Version] (Vince DiCola) from OST CD - Unused

23. War / Fanfare from Rocky [Album Version] (Vince DiCola) from OST CD - Unused

Kinda' Worthless Bonus Tracks (Can Omit if desired as they are irrelevant to the context of the film):

24. Double or Nothing (Kenny Loggins & Gladys Knight) from OST CD (I believe it was source music on radio)

25. One Way Street (Robert Tepper) from OST CD (I believe this also was source music played on a radio during movie)

*NOTE* Sweetest Victory on 2006 remastered OST CD seems to be an alternate mix than the original 1985 OST CD with different instrumentation. I prefer the 1985 mix, myself. All other track seem to just be remastered original versions.

Thank you to Intrada! This was awesome! And a great birthday gift!!!!!!

I don't have the Rocky IV OST, but I do have The Rocky Story, which is really quite heavy on the Rocky IV material. Fortunately, it contains tracks 1, 6, 9, 11, 13a, 22, and 23 that you list above. I picked up 19 from the 'net back when it was glamorous to do so, which means I'm only missing 20, 24, and 25. I can live with that.

Yeah, I don't have the Rocky IV OST either, but I have the Rocky Balboa album, and it has those 5 main songs. I'm on the fence about getting the OST... but oh, I probably will, maybe just not right away.

Speaking of Intrada,

They have less than 50 copies of White Lightning by Charles Benstein in stock

Less than 175 copies of Miklos Rozsa's The Last Embrace

And less than 150 copies of Jerry Goldsmith's In Harm's Way

In Harm's Way is now sold out at Intrada. If you want it, some of the other retailers might have a few remaining copies!

The Last Embrace down to under 100 copies at Intrada

Roger posted this about the June 8th batch:

One of the releases coming up is a Signature Edition. The score is quite obscure. So obscure that I'll give 1 free copy to the first person who correctly identifies the score right here.

I couldn't get the sample to play

In Search of Peace is one of the best release of 2009. I also have Cervantes, George Washington II. I've buy East of Eden on Amazon at $19, but it arrived without cover......

This is probably completely off, but maybe Witness?

Nope, Witness is all synth, although I wouldn't have objected to a complete/expanded reissue by Intrada.

My first reaction on hearing the clip was Horner. Someone on the Intrada boards suggested My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys (1991). I really don't know - gorgeous clip though.

I don't know but it's gonna be hard to resist this one, whatever it is.

The second clip sounds very familiar.

It better not be anything I want. With two Star Treks getting announced plus my trip to Austin for Raw yesterday, I've been spending most of the day consoling my checking account.

That was kinda of a boring episode of RAW last night. I love seeing Vince though! He is awesome!

Really, you think so? I thought it was great overall, even on TV I think I would have enjoyed it. And yes, Vince coming out was totally unexpected, we were floored. And bowing down. :)

I also hope it's nothing that I want. I haven't even opened all of the albums I bought in LLR's May Madness sale -- nor even received the last one!

Why not another clip? These are all from the same film.

Here's one more that actually features the main theme. The magic words to win this disc must be your final answer: "This score is...X"

http://www.intrada.net/namethattune/08JuN2010_01.m3u

Apparently no one on the Intrada board has guessed it yet either

Ah OK, when I posted here that hadn't happened yet.

I've never heard of that film or that composer

Roger has posted the first clue for the other title:

I hadn't given any info yet on the Universal title from the 80s that is limited to 1500 units.

Someone on the Intrada board has already assembled this list of possibilities:

Craig Safan's score to NIGHTMARES (1983)

Giorgio Moroder's score to SCARFACE (1983)

Brian May's score to CLOAK & DAGGER (1984)

Ira Newborn's score to INTO THE NIGHT (1985)

Bill Conti's score to GOTCHA (1985)

Bruce Broughton's score to SWEET LIBERTY (1986)

Carter Burwell's score to PSYCHO III (1986)

Michael Small's score to JAWS: THE REVENGE (1987)

I doubt it's Jaws 4 or Psycho III, it seems like those would be more than 1500 just by association with the more popular predecessors.

Not necessarily. Lesser films, lesser known composers, lesser scores. Intrada has released Michael Small before and they have been 1200 or less.

But there are way more than those 2 to choose from. So I wouldn't even begin to speculate.

I was sort of hoping the planets would align and they'd release something I wanted this batch, as my birthday's on the 7th :)

Still hope for the 80s one, although there aren't many from that period I'd want.

But releases like Jaws 3-D got 3,000 units. As far as I know, Alan Parker isn't a well known composer, and the score is only famous for the use of the Jaws theme.

I believe that also had something to do with a straight re-issue of the LP.

But like I said, there are too many scores to even begin to narrow it down without some more clues.

I just had the strangest feeling that the Universal title could be Vangelis's score for the Costa-Gavras film Missing. The small quantity would make sense, since, although it's a terrific one, the score would mainly appeal to die-hard Vangelis enthusiasts instead of the larger audience it deserves.

Beyond that, the only other contender that hasn't been mentioned already could be Ennio Morricone's score for The Thing. But I think that would deserve more than just 1500 copies.
