Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 As you might have read, Koray came up with the not too shabby idea of starting a JWFan.net Movie Club, in which we decide each week what film we will collectively watch. So, here is the official (or: OFFICIAL) JWFan.net Movie Club thread. This is where the new movie will be decided each week (suggestions are welcome of course). The new movie will be posted in the Topic Description. You can also post your reviews of the week's film here.At the end of each week, there will also be a chat session where we can come together to discuss. What better excuse to reinstate the old chat times, eh?So, for this week, your first movie to watch will be Steven Spielberg's 1975 film Jaws.Get in that fresh view and enlighten us with your opinions and discussions. Chat sessions will be held each Friday starting at 5pm EST.See you there!- MarcEDIT:Alright then, so here's a change of plans:New movies will no longer be announced weekly, but bi-weekly.The Friday night chat remains, but is no longer designated for the Movie Club, since that never really took off anyway. So, the new movie is The Iron Giant (Brad Bird, 1999).The next one will be announced on Saturday August 22nd.Post your thoughts and reviews here!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 What time is that in the civilised world?
Charlie Brigden 7 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 What time is that in the civilised world?10pm GMT.
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 What time is that in the civilised world?11pm over here.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 If I'm not having sex at that time, i'll see if I can join.Of course JWFAN chat sessions rarely stay on topic.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 To those who not at the regular Fridaynight chatsessions many years ago.It was maddening at times, multiple conversations carried out at once, between multiple members, for many many hours. It wasn't untill I started drinking that I would feel such sensations again. The dizziness, the confusion, the headache the next morning, with the blurred memory. It did give me a few good friends though.Of course the Membership was a far better class of person then what hangs around here these days!SLACK-JAWED-SLACKERS!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 It's the chat, there are no rules!
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I actually wasn't expecting the chat, but I like it. But like Steef said, it will be pretty messy with a bunch of people talking at the same time.
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Yes but my original idea was to have detailed discussions, where would address things like cinematography, editing, certain shots, specific moments, etc.
Hlao-roo 390 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 As long as we contain the discussion to Jaws and Michael Jackson's death, we should be good.
Charlie Brigden 7 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I don't see why we can't have detailed discussions on here, and then a catch-all in the chat.
indy4 160 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 You can also post your reviews of the week's film here.
Hlao-roo 390 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 It's sad that we can't post anything here and are forced to discuss everything in the chat room.
Xander Harris 9,095 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I don't think you appreciate the gut reaction people have to these things.
ChuckM 1 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I second this for the next movie!Like this? I prefer Part I over Part II, but yeah, any one of them would work. For that matter, how about discussing the trilogy as a whole?
BurgaFlippinMan 7 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 nice. Saturday 5am chats for me then....until I get back to the States mid August
Uni 307 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Film goes into discussion . . . discussion goes into the chat room . . . members in the chat room. . . .Farewell and adieu t'my fair Spanish ladies. . . . farewell and adieu t'my ladies of Spain. . . . - Uni
Richard P 5,122 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Chats on oscar night are memorable... and I'm always labelled crazy for staying up till 5am And somehow I feel these chats won't stay within the nominated films for long. But I'll re-watch Jaws if I can tear myself away from organising music for a few hours.
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I'm probably not going to be there. Firstly, I've seen Jaws too many times recently (HBO) and don't really want to pop in the DVD and watch it again. Secondly, I might be busy 5pm on Friday.

Richard P 5,122 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 You don't actually have to watch it Koray... just know about it.And I'm never busy, particularly at weekends

Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted July 19, 2009 Author Posted July 19, 2009 I won't even be able to watch it. I left my copy of Jaws at home.- Marc, who did watch Back to the Future last week and is actually planning to watch Back to the Future part II next.
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 I actually thought about us simultaneously watching the film during the chat session, but the whole PAL speedup thing would mess that up.
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 ...The whole PAL speedup thing would mess that up.Not to mention our sanity. "Nick", who hates watching Jaws parodies on Youtube.com because all of the good ones employ PAL speed
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,842 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Meaning Europeans have a better sense of humour!
Jim 6,172 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Does this mean I have to watch Jaws again tonight? Oh go on then...
Hitch 60 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 The first one to mention Zimmer gets shot!Itching to say itDoes this mean I have to watch Jaws again tonight? Oh go on then...You're gonna need a cleaner cap
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 So...Has anybody actually watched Jaws yet?
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 No and I don't plan to. I might stop by in the chat just to observe and see how it plays out.
Richard P 5,122 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 No and I don't plan to. I might stop by in the chat just to observe and see how it plays out.
John Crichton 4 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I might stop by the chat and cause all manner of off topic havoc.
Ollie 1,364 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 John and I are gonna come a riding, a whompin and stompin. We're gonna shoot up the place in true Texas style....Yeeeehaaaaaa!!!!!
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 With none of you slackers actually watching Jaws, should we keep it on the roster for another week or move on to a new picture?
Koray Savas 2,259 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 New picture! Make it Gran Torino, I just watched it
