Well, the list of nominees is out, and I'm glad LOST is back with a boom. I think this is the most times it's been nominated since Season 1. The most notable nominations are Best Drama Series, Best Score ("The End"), Best Lead Actor (Matthew Fox), Best Supporting Actor (Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson), Best Director (Jack Bender, "The End"), and Outstanding Writing (Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, "The End").

I predict it will win all those awards except the acting ones

Terry O'Quinn deserves it this year.

Indeed. He's the only one who has a chance. Emerson is great, but O'Quinn personally was unbeatable.

I predict...

Glenn Close (Damages)

Rose Byrne (Damages)

Martin Short (Damages)

Ted Danson (Damages)

Lily Tomlin (Damages)

Best drama series will be Mad Men. I don't care about the rest.

I'm disappointed but altogether not surprised that John Noble wasn't nominated for Fringe. His subtle portrayal of Walter Bishop is one of the things I look forward to seeing every time I watch the show.

Agreed on that!

John Noble is great on that show, and I am disappointed, but not at all surprised, that they didn't nominate him

More or less unrelated to anything LOST/Fringe/Damages, but congrats to Conan O'Brien getting FOUR nominations! Hell of an impression to make in seven months.

(Wait... that isn't Primetime. Oh well; I get the feeling I'll be drawn and quartered if I dare open up another Emmy thread. )

I forgot to mention the whole Conan thing. If he wins on this NBC televised event, it could be one of the greatest moments in TV history. Cause it's just not him giving the middle finger to NBC, it's the Academy and everyone involved in television.

Lol, I wouldn't object.

F U, Sean Callery.

How did Conan do?

The show's on Sunday. This weekend was mainly just the technical awards and some of the least interesting (according to NBC) categories.

Wouldn't go that far but I'm surprised at Callery's win. The music for 24 is good and functional, but not really anything special.

Maybe they figured since they Giacchino just got an Oscar, they'd reward Callery for eight seasons doing 24.

Lost got owned. I wanted Aaron Paul to win best supporting actor, but it definitely seemed like Terry O'Quinn was the favorite. Still, I would have liked Lost to win something...

I am not saying who is better, but I find Sean Callery outstanding. Some of the cues from 24 rival some of the best action music in movies, IMO.

Modern Family is great. Not as good as 30 Rock, but I like it. Good to see the industry likes it too, for whatever that's worth.

It has some funny moments, but as I whole I feel it suffers from horribly cheesy endings and a lot of bad acting. Manny's great, though.

Acting skills aren't always crucial in a comedy. Look at Jerry Seinfeld - he made and starred in arguably one of the funniest sitcoms of all time, but he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.

But having said that, I think the acting in "Modern Family" is great. It's no worse than the acting in "The Office".

Seinfeld's acting was bad in just about any other context, but within the show itself it works wonderfully. He looks like he's laughing with the audience throughout the shows, and it really makes it more enjoyable (less realistic, but more enjoyable). So I think it's good acting given what type of acting Seinfeld could have used.

Some of it's great. Manny's the only one that always gets me. His parents, the gay couple, and the dad of that other family are pretty good (but they have more than their fair share of bad moments). But the wife of the main family and the kids are more often than not pretty bad. I think it's definitely worse than The Office acting, even if we're comparing it to the recent Office seasons and especially if we're comparing it to The Office seasons 2-4.

Disappointed LOST got next to nothing. I hoped it would receive some awards as an acknowledgment of the achievements of the series as a whole, since nothing will probably ever come up again like it (evidences by the numerous failed shows that tried to ride its coattails). Think what happened with Return of the King at the Oscars.

The biggest snubs were Giacchino and Terry O'Quinn.

Indeed. I think everyone was on their best game in the last season, except for maybe Emilie De Raven.

Nobody appreciates Aaron Paul! I wouldn't dare call his emmy a snub of O'Quinn. I'd say Paul is better than O'Quinn as an actor. In any case, he already won previously, so it's not like he went unnoticed. Aaron Paul should have won before this year anyways.

Jerry was supported by an ensemble of three trained actors, which gave the show some weight. He dodged a bullet there.

The success of Seinfeld was due to Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld being two of the funniest comedians ever.

You can't deny the perfect casting/acting of George, Elaine, and Kramer. Or Newman, Peterman, the Soup Nazi. . . .

Y'know, that's interesting about Callery beating Giacchino. His 24 scoring can actually be quite good, aside from the fact that it's all electronic...I'd be interested in hearing an actual orchestra play some of his music in this vein. Obviously, Giacchino did a lot more to craft a unique (and largely acoustic) soundscape for Lost; the score for 24 is generic by comparison, but there's still a lot of cool ideas in it.
