The Tanglewood On Parade program includes "recent film scores". I think I'm going to shoot for one of the 80th Birthday concerts, although strangely he's not technically listed as a featured performer on the 80th Birthday concerts, but he is under the Anniversary and On Parade concerts.

I wonder if that means that he will drop the Hollywood Bowl this time, which is usually around the same time as the birthday event at Tanglewood?

That would be too bad, because I had hoped to combine an FSM gathering with a Williams concert.

One year he had the Bowl concert in July, he might just do that.

Yeah, but it seems like there are also two Tanglewood events in July that he's supposed to attend. I'm not sure I could justify an expensive US trip just for Tanglewood, of all places. I hope he'll do an LA or NY concert too.

Likely, Williams will sit in the audience while other conductors pay tribute to him. This was also the case last year. I sat a few feet away from the maestro and during intermission I could just walk up to him, exchange a few words, shake his hand and take a picture. A really, really relaxed way of meeting him and he seemed very much at ease talking to fans and people in the audience. The thing is; I think Williams regards Tanglewood somewhat as his 'home' and the attendees as 'family, neighbours and friends'. The atmosphere is very different from the concert halls in NY or LA. If I could choose to see Williams again, I would be going back to Tanglewood.

It may be a better, less 'fan-driven' atmosphere, but as I said earlier, I'm not sure I could justify an expensive US trip just to see Williams in a remote location such as Tanglewood. It would need to be combined with something else -- LA, NY, an FSM gathering etc.

I totally understand. I was lucky enough to combine my Tanglewood concert with visits to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon, driving the Route 66 to Chicago, Miami, The Everglades, Orlando, New York City and Washington. It was one of the most excting and fullfilling months of my life. I spend over a year planning and saving though.

Cool! I've never been to the US, but I'd love to do an extensive trip like that some day. Can't do it now, though, due to my economic situation. Can I ask how much that trip cost, in total?

Me and my wife are quite 'adventurous' travellers. We chose to rent a car and go from cheap hotel/motel to cheap hotel/motel. From San Francisco to Chicago this way of travelling kept costs reasonably low. We took an inland flight from Chicago to Miami, and from Miami to New York. All in all the whole trip probably cost us around 5000 EUR.

Thanks! That's quite a lot in itself, but probably not when you consider all the things you got to do.
