This is great. thanks, film!

P.s. "Always" is on Blu, at least in Europe.

What?

I don't think so. I would have bought it already. (it's one of my most wanted Williams Blurays along with Spacecamp).

I don't see it anywhere..

Some may not be US releases, but European ones (eg. Witches of Eastwick, Long Goodbye etc.) or Asian (Dracula)

Eastwick is on Blu-ray in the US in a "double feature" with Practical Magic.

Thanks very much for the list indeed! Really useful.

Though of course the real challenge would be to note which blu-ray edition is the best, and on which there is a JW extra ;)

He knows that, he's making a joke about the original unaltered versions not being available.

no need for the word unaltered. Original works.

@ Joey

There are many great films (with great music of course) in your list, that you don't "have" or "want" like Memoirs and SPR.

Does that mean you don't like the films and their music or you have them on DVD and no need to upgrade to BLU?

Super happy you did this. AND that you are updating it. Thanks much. Good to see I am not the only one who is keeping a John Williams on Blu Ray collection.

Bummer about some of them being Japanese and European releases only.

Presumed Innocent I heard has a good transfer on Blu Ray, but I have heard that Witches of Eastwick was a horrible transfer. At least on the double disc with Practical Magic. That's one of my favorites too. I hope it gets a better release someday.

you're welcome!

And.... I just found out about another release too on the same date!

THE TERMINAL! :)

(updated the first post)

(I fear that my most wanted Spielberg film that hasn't been released yet [ALWAYS] won't get a release like ever! :( )

Was there a seperate thread for Far and Away Bluray? I'm searching but it doesn't come up with anything.

Anyway, here's the review of the BLuray:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Far-and-Away-Blu-ray/37218/#Review

Judging from the screenshots this looks quite good! I'm excited because I love the movie!

Jason I remember you haven't seen it yet. You should definitely give it a chance!

Williams's score is agreeably preserved, retaining sharp instrumentation and feeling, reaching big at times while developing a deep sound and wide reach.

Far and Away looks like a DNR mess! There goes yet another missed opportunity for Blu-Ray greatness.

What? I wouldn't say that.

It certainly isn't excessive like Predator for example..

I myself love grain and can't stand DNR, and this seems good enough...

Okay, it's not a "mess" per say but it's still pretty underwhelming. They obviously used the DVD transfer as the basis for this one and the result is a murky, definition free image. The wrong aspect ratio is the cherry on top.

The wrong aspect ratio is the cherry on top.

How did they screw up the aspect ratio?

The original aspect ratio is 2.20:1 and this is 2.35:1.

But i'm not sure what that means exactly. Did they crop from top and bottom?

I just don't understand why they don't use the original film poster in the covers of Blurays:

They use different covers so they don't have to pay the original poster artist. The new one looks absolutely hideous. It looks like the plane and Catherine Zeta Jones are about to fly into Tom Hanks.

Hmmm... I'm not sure if this applies here. I mean they're using the image of Tom Hanks, don't they?

That alone is the original poster art.

They didn't have to add that thing with Catherine Zeta Jones.

Not Bluray news, but since this is a new release of a rare film in DVD for the first time ever, thought to write it here.

Recently released this month, from FOX Cinema Archives in DVD-R.

The film is pure nonsense from start to finish -- and very sexist -- but it's worth it for the scene with the dog stealing the dinosaur bone & Williams' mambo.

Glad to see it get some form of release. It was the first Williams film that started his association with wacky comedies in the 60s.

It would be great if we could get Storia di una Donna in such a release too (eg. from the Universal Vault Series DVD-Rs), but I think we were lucky enough already to get that youtube video. :biglaugh:

ooooh.... one month passed already since that historical moment! :)

review of THE TERMINAL Bluray with 40 screenshots, which comes "Very highly recommended" !

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Terminal-Blu-ray/44111/#Review

video & audio: 4.5/5

9844_7_1080p.jpg

John Williams' score is rather light throughout, and the presentation is true; it's nicely defined and airy, effortlessly flowing into the stage and supported by both strong clarity at the top and middle and a nice little weight at the bottom.

It seems an excellent release! I love grain so much and I'm glad that they kept it!!

the colors seem that are in the teal side, as usual with new Blurays and restorations. I don't remember though if this was the color palette originally, or if it was more in the blue side.

included:

In Flight Service: The Music of The Terminal (SD, 5:53): A glimpse into Composer John Williams' music and contributions.

This will be perhaps one of those few times, that I'll buy a film that i'm not so crazy about, just because it has a stellar release!

P.S.: Oh, I really hope ALWAYS (1989) receives such treatment! (if it will ever be released)

Not to sound like an idiot, but which Blu-ray of Close Encounters is the one to have? Amazon isn't clear (to me, at any rate) on what set has what. I assume one of the releases has all 3 cuts?
