Not sure if anyone noticed, but these tickets are now available to the public for purchase on their website. Good bit of seats left.

I bought a ticket and planned a weekend in San Diego. Excited, as it will be my first time seeing Williams as conductor in person.

Note: For health reasons, Mr. Williams has regretfully withdrawn from his previously announced appearance leading these concerts.

Wow....sigh. Guess I'm going to cancel my trip I planned just for this. Really sucks, was hoping to see him before health issues. :(

Phew...I'm glad it's just 'temporary minor health issue', which could basically be a cold.

My guess is it's more severe than a cold. The concert date is still 20 days away. That's a long period of time to have a minor health issue?

Come on, the man is almost 83 years-old, it could be a temporary illness like a bad flu or something else that prevents him from doing such (very demanding) physical activities like traveling and conducting. At that age, if you aren't more than fit, any doctor will suggest you to rest and avoid any stressful activities for the body until you're fully recovered.

Exactly. Let's not go all doom and gloom at just the slightest mishap.

I doubt they would call it a minor temporary health issue if it was more serious. They stated it in that way so people don't freak out. I guess it didn't work. :-\ Anyway, there's no point belaboring this issue. It is what it is.

Cigarette and cigar smoking affects people differently, too. I know people who have smoked heavily for decades and they have a clean bill of health. Luck or good genes, I'm not sure. In any case, we don't know the medical history and issues of either man.

Here's the list of things you have to worry about at that age:

Stroke

Heart Attack

Cancer

Pneumonia

Fractures due to injury

I wouldn't put any of those in the categories of minor and temporary.

JW smokes cigars

He used to. I believe he stopped a long time ago.

He did.

To me, he seems to be more healthy than most 83-year-olds I've known. At that age, my own grandfather (who passed away in 2011 at age 85) was hardly mobile. Williams, on the other hand, has LONG walks every day.

I lol'd at some of the posts in this thread, especially this one:

Although that link uses the same statement from the SD Symphony's site, his post was written as if he found some ground-breaking article that revealed grim details about John Williams' health.

I wish John Williams the best. My sympathy to those who bought tickets and aren't able to see him perform. Total bummer.
