From 10:35 onwards JJ Abrams discusses hearing the new themes from john williams, in particular the end credits :)

You mean 13:50. I would not recommend watching any more of this video, as it's fucking embarrassing.

By the way, why do I only have 19,923 posts now? A day ago I had about 20,650. Were some threads deleted?

Nope. I ran a tool in the admin area that recounts everyone's post counts based on actual live, existing posts. Apparently, before it never removed a count if posts were deleted or whatever. Now its an accurate count.

"It was so profound to hear the end titles begin as it always does"

That's not what he says in my video.

At 14:14, that's exactly what he says.

That video is otherwise thoroughly cringeworthy. Hearing Abrams talk about JW is becoming like Spielberg talking about him. He's a God, apparently.

I don't mind that, it's everything else.

So it's no different than hearing JWFANers talking about JW, then?

It doesn't confirm anything.

The guy just says "The new themes and the old themes are played side-by-side in the end credits, which are awesome". Nothing more. Doesn't necessarily mean the end credits open the same way as they did in the previous films.

New and old themes were also side by side in Episode III. And II. And I.

The Force Awakens will have end credits? Holy shit! :o

I know, it is a shocker to be sure. Still nice to hear Abrams being appreciative of JW and his music.

It's reassuring to know we will have a proper end credits suite, instead of concert arrangements of the themes just glued together. I enjoy this kind of end credits a lot.

I'm also glad to know the movie will close with the same old theme and rebel fanfare. It is part of the mystique of these movies by now.

JJ. Abrams mentions the music and John Williams in this BBC interview too - http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35019635

On Dec. 18 – aka #StarWarsDay – Hollywood Studios will kick off festivities with a bang, a fireworks show called “Symphony in the Stars.”

When reporters asked whether there will be any new John Williams music to accompany the new fireworks show, Giordana paused and said: “Am I allowed to answer?” Then he drew out his answer as he said, “yeees.”

Maybe there will be some music that is not on the OST? :)

Lol why, because of the interviewer? I like his enthusiasm.

No ambiguity there.

As it always does and as it always will be.

Amen.

World without end.

Agreed. Tim Sebastian should have conducted the interview.

This is what he says in the interview:

“I didn’t need to obviously direct John Williams at all. He’s got his talent, his wisdom, his storytelling is so significant… The most incredible thing was when he went to conduct the end titles, which always has all the themes connected together. It was so profound to hear the end titles begin as it always does, and then sort of lead into some of these themes that we had been hearing for months, that he’s created. And it’s just an amazing thing to hear his work, and to hear how these new themes co-exist inevitably in a way with the original ones.

And he's not even referring to the end credits in that last sentence.

Yeah, I'm not sure he said anything new here, other than 100% confirmation that the end credits begin like always. The way he phrased it, we could still end up with a cut-and-paste suite.

End Credits March, Rey's Theme, Han Solo and the Princess, Snoke, March of the Resistance, Scherzo for X-Wings, Throne Room and Finale = "Wow, amazing to hear the old and the new themes co-exist! Classic John Williams!"

By then will it even matter though? It's like getting a picture of a delicious meal after you've already eaten it.

"Harrison, here's my ticket!"

"Oh, uh...that's nice. Why are you giving me this? Do you want like an autograph or do you just want to appear sad and creepy?"

"I'm not going to ask you who shot first, Han or Greedo, but what's your opinion on it?"

"Huh?"

"Gwendoline, if you could be in any scene in the original movies, which would it be?"

"IDGAF."

It's good to know J.J. and the cast are familiar enough with the new themes to recognise them instantly at this point (even Boyega when he went to the sessions).

I think it bodes well for some instantly memorable, catchy melodies. I remember the suite of War Horse themes being instantly memorable to me, so hopefully the extra prep time really helped JW refine TFA's themes.

Or Finn gets a really heroic moment with an appropriately bombastic, instantly recognisable rendition of his theme (especially with probably multiple takes in the same session, making it more noticeable).

I think I'm the only one who doesn't find the Cellar Song thing remotely amusing.

I don't get why people keep using that google translate error instead of saying "cantina song"

That's a possibility, yes.

It'd be funny if Boyega was actually talking out of his ass, and Finn actually doesn't even have a theme!

Or Finn gets a really cool hero moment that John scored with some one-off little fanfare, and Boyega thought that was his theme. ;)

It's just a JWFAN running gag at this point. We all know it's cantina.
