I wrote the authors an email a couple of weeks ago to see if I could purchase a copy this way, but got no response. 8O

As far as I know, it hasn't been translated yet (and I wouldn't hold my breath).

I don't suppose there is a chance in hell that you....or any MB member who can read Spanish will translate it for us?

Stefancos-  8O

Well, surprise surprise, Stefan. I volunteered for the job, but I got some other summer alternatives.

-ROSS, who has still nothing to do on August, so maybe, if he found a copy, he would reconsider.

Hi everyone. 8O

I'm actually in holidays in Firenze (Italy) for a week or so. I've finally found an internet caffe where I can check my old cherished JW message board. YEAH

Thank you for the response concerning the book, I hope it will be translated one day... maybe we could make an official demande or something ?

PBL

PS: thanks for your warm welcome, King Mark. Since I had no internet in my new place for 2 years, it has been really difficult for me to stay in conncetion with the website i used to visit, or the people I saw on the internet. sorry... but i promise i will post more often :)

I don't mean to be a spoilsport, but would translating the book and posting that translation on this MB (or Internet in general) be illigal?

I'd hate to see so much hard work go to wast?

And for Ricard, since you have that book, what's it like?

Does it give any insights into Williams we don't already have?

Stefancos- wondering if he should ask Darth Furter to translate it for him. :)

Some artists are realisitc enough to understand that their work will not be sold anymore, and their only way for them to be known is to allow pirates to work. Believe me, seen it happen.

So maybe one of us (Ricaaaaard?) can contact the chileans and expose them the situation. Maybe they will understand. Or maybe they'll put the translation up on a website and charge for download, like Stephen King does.

-ROSS, who has another Spanish analyzing the best 100 soundtracks of all time, 10 of them by Williams.

Some of us have already done that repeatedly, with no luck.

Not if we have permission from the author. He's the only owner of the book.

OK, first let me say that the book is not, as some may think, a John Williams biography, but a collection of analyses (some very short, some quite comprehensive) of Williams works for film and television, filled with anecdotes and quotes.

Here's the cover, credits and list of the book's contents:

Definitely.

I doubt very much anyone would do that for free :)

Ricard,

Did you thoroughly enjoy the book? Was it a page turner or was it more along the lines that you would read a few pages here and there on your off time before bed just to get those insights?

In otherwords if the book was readily available and in multiple languages and knowing it is an analyses as opposed to a biography would you recommend it to all of us?? (assuming some of us have basic knowledge in music and others are more advanced)

Yes, I would definitely recommend the book to all John Williams fans, although I consider it more an 'introduction' to Williams that an exhaustive book about Williams music. Keep in mind that due to space problems, most of the analyses are quite short (too short, in my opinion). Also, at least 50% of the book is comprised of quotes from multiple sources (liner notes, interviews, articles, books, the JW Web Pages...) already available in English and therefore much more understandable in their original form.
