I know there's a thread here somewhere for this show, but I'm damned if I can find it....I seem to remember it starting when Season 4 comenced, so perhaps time for a new one? That's my excuse anyway, and I'm sticking to it.....

SO - anyone seen season 5 opener yet? Any good????

Gregt - who hasn't (we still havea couple of weeks to wait yet.....)

yes, and you will be shocked. the first 10 minutes of the opener are the most unpredictible in 24 history. i love it.

Yep, all the 'you will be shocked' blurb for once is not just hype - I had my mouth hanging open in disbelief for most of the first part of episode 1.

I like the initial storyline for this one as well; very clever and follows on logically from season 4. Should get episode 5 tomorrow morning as well 8O

I affectionately call this the Jack Bauer Power Hour.

And yes, Season 5 is starting off quite well. That opening was like, Oh Crap!!!

I have not been very interested after season 2. Don't even get me started on that silly subplot with Kim Bauer scrambling from one predicament to another. That really tested the boundaries of believability. No one can have that much bad luck  It was tragicomic.

And the series is on season 4 in Finnish TV so we have to wait for the next season for a while.

I completely lost my interest during season 4.

I too lost a lot of interest during season 4, but stuck with it through several dreary episodes and was glad I did....the last few made up for it all.....

Sounds like Season 5 is a kicker! No news yet on a firm date for the season opener in the UK, other than that it is during Feb dometime.....

I love 24. Season 2 was just about the best television work I have ever seen.

Recently watched all six seasons of Sex And The City. Thought it was just for the "girlies"... No way! I loved it. Especially the first 2 seasons before it got a little too "soapie".

As for Sex In The City, well written, well acted, but not enough sex.

It has more shots of boobies, various sexual positions (even penises for those interested) than any other American tv-show. It was on HBO, but still... I was interested however because of the writing, direction, acting, etc. If you want to see porn rent Rich Bitches IV (or first I, II and III if you want to follow the central story line! LOL )

Rent porn?

You do know you can download it all for free right?

But then you miss the thrill of standing in a "video store" with people staring at you like you're some freaking pervert or something. You don't like that? LOL

How do you guys like season 3??? I've watched the first two seasons on DVD, but season 2 was kinda sucky -- not really sucky, only kinda -- so I'm not sure whether to get season 3. What do you think?

That's exactly how it was. Not really sucky, only kinda. Anyway, I'm tired of the formula and the characters. 'Lost' is where my interest lies these days.

Isn't that the show that has this "secret"?

And they are gonna try keep you interested in that "secret" for 7 seasons?

Sounds like another X-files to me.

Yep, that's the one. We're currently at Season 2, episode 11, and I can't see how they can possibly drag it out for a third one.

As for 24, a few flaws for me were S2 - I think they were struggling to think of stuff to keep Kim in enough trouble. That psycho in the woods tested me slightly. Also, S4 as a whole bugged me a little. The way it kept building up to the next 'thing' and bringing back something from S2. Also, the initial ending was a bit anticlimactic for me.

Season 4 got to a point of being just plain annoying, but fortunately picked up in the last few episodes.

I've only seen the first 2 eps of day 5, but as said, the first episode opens with a huge shocker. And once you've recovered from that, they pull another one.

I love this show, though. I've been a fan since season 1. Day 3 was okay, but didn't reach the heights of, say, the first 13 hours and the final hours of day 1, or the first 13 of day 2 (up until the big kaboom!).

Love Lost too. These are easily my two favorite shows.

- Marc, who's been downloading new Lost episodes, and will catch up to the Yanks this week. :)

So far for me 24 is the anti-Star Trek of TV series......the odd seasons tend to be great, and the even seasons you need an open mind for......

Ummm.....story that ran out half way through....."Peril of the Week" time for Kim Bauer......nope! It was good, but not up to Season 1 or 3 standard, and I would say sub-season 4 too....but still watchable, especially on DVD (where this show seems to come out best.....)

24 is a show best taken in large quantities at a time (whereas Lost is better spread out, slowly revealing new bits of information). I think S2 was totally awesome. But I also do think that once the bomb had gone off, the season ran out of steam, and the last hours were just about some lame McGuffin type thingy (a similar structure came back to haunt season 4).

Heck, I'll even take the cougar for granted when re-watching S2.

Season 3 had that stupid baby subplot that dragged on for hours.

DVD rocks because you dont have to wait for commercials.

Watching season 2 on the BBC right after season 1 had finished here was great. Widescreen, and no commercial interruptions! They also had a cool website just for the show, where I'd often come to discuss with fellow 24 nuts. :)

my favorite part of s2 is when they vote Palmer out of office but then need him. David Palmer is the greatest President of all time. too bad it was fake.

The whole voting episode was great. It's basically just a bunch of people talking throughout the entire episode, in a show where you're normally thrown from one wild ride to the next. Yet I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Yep - that site was great - I never posted, but did browse it frequently when I finally discovered the show (I didn't become an addict until I was given the season 1 DVD box as a pressie, at which time season 3 was airing....)

Mr B - yeah - that was my problem with Season 2 - the whole last 8 or so hours would have made one single great episode, but it just dragged on waaaayyyy to much and ran out of steam quickly.....I didn't think season 4 suffered quite so much since at least the momentum was kept up right to the closing minutes, but see your point......

I remember seeing 24 on the program list for BBC 2, back when they were first showing day 1. I had no idea what it was about, but the idea of a real-time show intrigued me. I would've watched it even if it was about something completely different, just to see the real-time aspect of it. But they were always late, and I'd always miss it. So when it started on Dutch tv, I made sure to watch. It took one episode to get me hooked. :)

But I like to say I was a fan before I'd seen a single minute of it.

Also, if you ever get lost in 24, check out this site.

That's exactly why is took so long for me to get into it. I heard things about it, but the words 'complex plots' and 'real-time' suggested it would be far too intellectual for me, when I have enough trouble following the plots of similarly themed movies.

But seeing the first episode was enough to get me completely hooked as well :) I saw about the first 2/3 of S1 on BBC 1 the past summer, and then my brother got the S1-4 box set and I'd seen the lot within a few months (either 2 or 3 I did a weekend of  ).

What fascinates me about 'Lost' is that it took me at least 6 episodes before I even started to like the characters (except for the guy with the daggers who was my favorite from the very start). In general, you just don't know it with these guys! But 'Lost' slowly grows on you. This is in stark contrast with '24' which is basically another story about good (Jack Bauer - Palmer - Kim) vs. evil (terrorists). They are two very different animals indeed.

Locke is my favorite character. Jack is second. So now that they've been put right across one another (they definetly were in Orientation), it puts me right in the middle as a viewer. I've never really had that kind of experience. I love the character dynamics on Lost.

- Marc, up to 2.04, taking five, then straight on to the next ep. 8O

I was eagerly waiting for this thread to turn to a 'Lost' one. This has to be one of the most thrilling, well-made tv series of all time. And I watch a lot of TV series.

-Ross, whose favorites are Locke and Hurley. 'Um, duuude?'

Received my UK S4 dvd today. :)

Pity they edited the making-of. At one point, director Jon Cassar swears. The swear-word was cut out, and there's a slight jump in the picture. Right after that, Cassar comments to Rodney Charters (D.P.) that the making-of guys just caught their yearly clip of him swearing on camera for the DVD.

Jack's "I can find my own f***ing job, Erin, thank you" from the prequel remains intact, though.

Silly Brits.

- Marc, having pet peeves.

This is your second and last spoiler warning.

So, let's see, Jack gets freed from the Chinese, Jack makes a deal with a refomed terrorist that looks remarkably like Dr. Bashir with a beard, Wayne Palmer's sister annoys the piss out of everyone- at least me, lots of fairly typical stuff happens in the middle, Jack shoots Curtis, Jack breaks down, and a nuke is set of 20 miles outside of Los Angeles so they could do it without blowing up the whole city. Discuss.

I have done extremely well not to read much of your post.....but thought I would point out that it's nicer that the UK are only a week behind the US this time around (I think it was - like - 5 or 6 weeks behind for season 5?).

I was a bit sceptical during the fist three episodes. Bit too much stuff blowing up, I thought. But the last act of episode four was awesome.

I hope they'll explore the politics a bit deeper, though, and keep up this "broken Jack" angle (instead of abandoning it after 6 episodes, like season 3's heroine subplot).

Good start, I say.

Yeah, that surprised me too, how backloaded the "shock content" was, especially considering how last year's premier was a shock a minute. Everything was pretty standard fare (though still good), the only real "Holy @*(^%" moments were the two right at the end.

Can't wait for this to start on Sky. They never, ever, EVER should have killed off Tony though.

If it took 3 days for Jesus to resurrect after the crucifixion, does that mean I can look forward to Almeida's miraculous return to CTU some time around season 8? And single too, now that Michelle's out of the way?

I can dream, can't I?
