John Williams was presented with an honorary doctorate in music from Harvard University on Thursday, sharing Harvard’s 366th Commencement Day spotlight with a host of honorees at the top of their fields.
During the ceremony, one of the school’s most famous a cappella groups paid musical tribute to the maestro performing a selection of some of Williams’ most known themes, including Star Wars, E.T., Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Superman.
Also Receiving honorary degrees were Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, former Lockheed Martin CEO Norman Augustine, Somali human rights activist Hawa Abdi Dhiblawe, actress Judi Dench, feminist literary critic Sandra M. Gilbert, actor James Earl Jones, Walter E. Massey, the chancellor of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Harvard computer science professor Michael Rabin, and Baylor College of Medicine professor Huda Y. Zoghbi.
