I’ve received the packaging graphics for War Horse, and thought you’d be interested to read this statement from Spielberg, which is included in the booklet:<\/p>\n

“The dramatic countryside of Dartmoor has\u00a0inspired John Williams to compose a score of such\u00a0beauty and quiet majesty that one might think\u00a0the earth was speaking through him, much as the\u00a0heavens have done for nearly five decades. When I\u00a0first heard John\u2019s sketches of the four central\u00a0themes for War Horse, I didn\u2019t need my memories\u00a0of the film to underscore the feelings I was having.<\/em><\/p>\n

The music was a stand-alone experience and it\u00a0affected me deeply, as have so many of John\u2019s\u00a0scores during our nearly 40-year collaboration.\u00a0I feel that John has made a special gift to me of this\u00a0music, which was inspired not only by my film\u00a0but also by many of the picturesque settings of\u00a0the poet William Wordsworth, whose vivid\u00a0descriptions of the British landscape inspired much\u00a0of what you are going to hear. I\u2019m not sure what\u00a0I can give John in return, other than a promise\u00a0of more films to come … for as many more years as\u00a0we both can imagine!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Kind of makes me want to hear it, you know? I’ll have the music in a couple days, in time for my on-air premier on Saturday<\/a>. I’ll play a couple tracks, not the whole score, but I’ll do my best to represent the key themes and emotions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
