John Williams Debuts Movie Score Selections from The Adventures of Tintin<\/em> and War Horse<\/em> at Young Musicians Foundation Gala Concert<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jan 04, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Young Musicians Foundation:<\/p>\n

WHAT: Famed composer John Williams has selected the Young Musicians\u00a0Foundation’s Annual Gala Concert for the orchestral premiere of\u00a0pieces from his recent film scores for: The Adventures of Tintin<\/em>\u00a0and War Horse<\/em>, both directed by Steven Spielberg and\u00a0opening in theaters this Christmas. This performance by YMF’s\u00a0Debut Orchestra will be the first time these film score selections\u00a0have been played outside of the recording studio!<\/p>\n

Reflecting its “Celebrating the YMF Legacy” theme, the 57th\u00a0Annual Gala Concert will offer a varied and exciting repertoire of\u00a0classical and contemporary compositions. In total, five guest\u00a0conductors will lead YMF Debut Orchestra’s 70 talented musicians,\u00a0ages 15-25, and 20-plus local alumni.<\/p>\n

WHO: The Debut Orchestra is the flagship program of the Young Musicians\u00a0Foundation and is one of the oldest and most successful\u00a0pre-professional training orchestras in the country. Debut Orchestra\u00a0alumni are members of Los Angeles Philharmonic and many other\u00a0orchestras in the U.S., Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n

Two honorees will receive awards at the Gala: YMF’s Humanitarian\u00a0Award will be presented to Lawrence N. Field, founder and\u00a0principal of NSB Associates and long-time YMF board member in\u00a0recognition for his support of the Los Angeles community and in\u00a0particular of a young person’s artistic training. David Weiss, YMF\u00a0alumnus celebrating 50 years of involvement with YMF, will receive\u00a0the inaugural Living the Legacy Award, presented to alumni\u00a0who embody the spirit and vision of the YMF.<\/p>\n

In addition to John Williams, renowned guest conductors performing\u00a0at the Gala concert include Richard Kaufman, Teddy Abrams, Joey\u00a0Newman and YMF alumnus Michael Tilson Thomas.<\/p>\n

WHEN: The Gala Concert will take place Sun., Jan. 15, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

WHERE: Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 135 North Grand Avenue,\u00a0Los Angeles, CA 90012<\/p>\n

WHY: Young Musicians Foundation: All proceeds from the Gala will\u00a0benefit children and youth ages 8-25 who receive music education,\u00a0scholarships, pre-professional musical training and performance\u00a0opportunities.<\/p>\n

Other YMF programs include the Music Director and\u00a0Conductor-in-Residence post, one of the most prestigious training\u00a0positions available to young conductors. Renowned conductors Michael\u00a0Tilson Thomas, Andre Previn, Lawrence Foster and Daniel Hege have\u00a0each held this position. YMF also provides music mentorship and harp\u00a0instruction in the Lennox School District and classical music\u00a0experiences to elementary and high school students in the greater\u00a0Los Angeles area.<\/p>\n
