Could it be a mixture of different concerts? The concert in 2001 started with Star Trek: First Contact and ended with a suite from Rudy. It included the medley of television themes. Goldsmith conducted Alien and Twilight Zone: The Movie in the second of the concerts at the Barbican the previous year. He also did a couple of concerts with the LSO in 2003 but I don't recall him doing Rambo.

I'm not sure if it is a mixture, as the comments he gives all seem to come from the same concert, and he speaks about some of the pieces that precede/succeed them, such as ALIEN and Rambo.

Edit: My memory serves me well, it also features the prologue from THE AGONY AND THE ECTASY, which if I remember correctly was being premiered as a concert piece. Although I could be getting mixed up, but it's definitely in there.

I've just about solved it. The concert itself was on August 18th, 1989 (which explains the inclusion of STAR TREK V). What follows is what I've been able to make out:

It's in order, based on what I've read, although there's a couple of tracks that aren't in the film.

If you know the story so well though, shouldn't you be able to work it out? The titles seem pretty specific.

2) "In Noctem" - I believe this was originally going to score Dumbledore's Funeral, but they changed their minds. It works nicely as an Overture to the film/album though.

6) "Wizard Wheezes" - This is not used in the film (don't know why; it would've worked well I think). Instead, they used the "Fireworks" track from Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix. Whether that was a new recording for this film, or was simply tracked, I don't know.

28) "The Weasley Stomp" - I'm not sure about this track. I can't remember it in the film. It's possibly there somewhere, or it could also be unused. See if you can spot the recurring motif about halfway through that sounds very similar to Michael Giacchino's Star Trek.....

Here's my chronological re-edit of Hans Zimmer's SHERLOCK HOLMES. No PMs asking for files, please ... this is only a guide on how to do it yourself:

01. Sherlock Holmes (2:13) = Track 13

This is the exclusive track "Holmes (Hans 'n Guy Version)" that was available through iTunes with a ticket pre-order. I don't know how (or if) you can get it now. Anyway, it's a straight "album version" of the main theme. It makes a good "overture."

02. First Point Of Attack (4:02) = Track 01 [0:00-0:21] / Track 07

Instead of a hard cut to Track 07, I faded it in slightly as the last bit of the Track 01 portion faded out. I also cross-faded slightly with the next track...

03. Be Gentle With Me (1:03) = Track 04 [0:00-1:02]

This is from the opening Baker St. scene. To disguise the necessarily abrupt ending, I cross-faded slightly with the next track...

04. "Royale Medley" [German Dance No. 10 (Beethoven) / Adagio Op. 1 No. 3 (Haydn)] (3:02)

This is my own (substantially shortened) edit of the two classical pieces that play under the dinner scene. You can find them on the soundtrack for THE DUCHESS; it's the recording used in the film.

06. "The Rocky Road To Dublin" [Traditional (The Dubliners with Luke Kelly)] (2:28)

This recording is from the 60s or 70s (I think), but it's a traditional Irish period piece that would have been common in Holmes' era. Available on numerous CDs, on iTunes, Amazon's mp3 store, etc.

08. Allow Me To Explain (1:22) = Track 02 [1:29-End]

I did a little bit of looping at the beginning to account for the cross-faded bit.

This track is abridged in the film somewhat. The intro, from 0:00-0:47, I could not identify ... but I suspect it was meant to go here, and would have played under Holmes at Watson's hospital bed.

I elected to re-index the huge, penultimate track into its component cues for easier listening. Otherwise, it's unedited (apart from the few minutes towards the end that Zimmer cut when he made the album).

I've decided to mix the score track Tension: The Kiss with Earth Angel as an alternative and have just found that the last part of that track (Tension) is already mixed in with Earth Angel already. Both tracks as heard in the film are shorter than the CD tracks (Earth Angel in 3 minutes long) and only runs for about 2 minutes on screen but with the extended Tension track my mix comes out to about 2 mins 22 secs. I can live with this.

The whole sequence, as done by me, goes:

Earth Angel 0:00-0:45 (complete fade out) 0:00-0:45

Tension: The Kiss 0:00-0:55 (complete fade out) 0:45-1:40

Earth Angel 2:20-end (fade in from 2:10 overlaying from 1:30) 1:40-2:22

(Timings are all approximates only)

Many people may not like this but I think it works out quite well.

My editing guide:
Needed: OST, 1996 CD (Special Edition), 2002 CD (20th Ann.), Isolated score (Laserdisc-rip)

- Editing guide with as little editing as possible, yet still precise. I wasn't fussy about any possible sound quality differences between the SE and the Ann. CDs; and neither about switching from one to the other (which was sometimes necessary to cut down on the editing work).
- In most cases there's a (not always mentioned) reason I selected either the SE or the Ann. track. In the very few cases it didn't matter which of the two, I opted for the SE.
- Most of the original versions of the cues are on the first CD: in this way there's a first 'intended' version of the complete score on CD 1, with CD 2 containing revisions and OST-rerecordings.
Of course: in most cases you can just switch them around depending on what you prefer to have on CD 1.
- If you stick strictly to the OST order for the second CD, it isn't a very good listening experience, as there's too much repetition in the second half of the CD. (Very strictly speaking, this is not the exact film version, as it has the horn overlay at 12:42 absent everywhere else.
Also, you need to edit out the 4-second silence before The Departure, if you want the film version. All the rest matches up perfectly with the film version, including the bad edit at around 13:45.)
So, the beauty of selecting the Ann. track as the original version and the OST track as a so-called film version, is that they're perfectly complementary, and you don't need editing at all (if you don't mind listening to that bad edit).
What you end up with then is the original version on CD 1, and the revised version with all the overlays on your CD 2.

Speaking of McCreary, does anybody know if the Caprica CD is in proper order? It seems like a few tracks might be misordered, but I'm too lazy to pull out the DVD and actually check.
