World-renowned composer honors Gustavo Dudamel and the musicians of the
Los Angeles Philharmonic with a special new work

LOS ANGELES (May 4, 2026) — The LA Phil today announced a special addition to its June 4 program, Gustavo Dudamel: Celebrating the Musicians of the LA Phil—a newly composed fanfare by legendary composer John Williams. Titled Bravo Gustavo!, the work is written to showcase the orchestra’s trumpet section among the full ensemble and will be conducted by Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel.

The brief, celebratory piece was composed as a surprise tribute to Dudamel and the musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, recognizing their artistry and the enduring impact of Dudamel’s leadership.

“John Williams has long been a cherished part of the LA Phil family, and this gesture is both deeply meaningful and wonderfully joyful,” said Kim Noltemy, LA Phil President & CEO. “Bravo Gustavo is a fitting tribute—not only to Gustavo, but to the extraordinary musicians who bring this orchestra to life.”

Widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of our time, Williams has maintained a close relationship with the LA Phil for decades, serving as both a conductor and curator for the orchestra programs. The organization also recently dedicated the Hollywood Bowl stage in his honor.

The June 4 concert, Gustavo Dudamel: Celebrating the Musicians of the LA Phil, highlights the artistry of the orchestra and marks a moment of reflection and celebration for Dudamel’s tenure as Music & Artistic Director. Titled Bravo Gustavo!—the same name as the commemoration of Dudamel’s first 10 years with the LA Phil—the work offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience a new composition by Williams in this special context.
